As others have said or alluded to - she is not turning the barrel with her hands and so the barrel is not getting turned immediately as it should. There is a pass through check point that shows the front arm low and out of position and the hands straying from the rear shoulder indicating a pull of the handle instead of turn.

Shift and swing or shift then swing are both entirely about how a hitter uses or does not use their hands. If you learn to turn the barrel immediately your body will support that goal and shift on time. If you are using your body to turn the barrel you have to shift first to create the needed momentum to get the barrel around.

This is a very nice and thoughtful post. I had to at least say so instead of just hitting the "like button."

I don't believe in your statement. The body is more important then the hands.

Now if you said the body is slaved to the hands and that the body supports or reacts to the upperbody program. Then I agree. It's called end gaining. In that you think about the end result, the upperbdoy or the end of the kinetic chain, and you allow the body to support the end of the kinetic chain. Using the body with no emphasis of the end result can create as many problems as it solves. So I agree with your statement, although the body is still the the power to the most distal segments (the hands/arms).

Good to read of some common sense.

What jumps out at me....Front toss...shifts & swings. Front toss & tee swings. Swings with her arms. Like to see DD use her hands to turn the barrel. Swings around her body and seems to maintain the 'hinge angle'. Would prefer to see more of swing out from her body and 'oily' wrists. Again JMHO.

This comment was for the OP...I was giving an example of a drill....
