There are definitely some components of of the swing I like (hand/arm action and barrel path) , but I'm seeing a lack of lower-body involvement and contribution to the swing, leaving the swing powered by the arms. It seems to me that her sequence is off. I'm seeing her hands pull back, then strides (carrying the hands forward), then swing. I would ask her to make an adjustment so the hands are pulling back at the same time as the stride, and still pulling back as the rear hip starts to turn forward. The lower body needs to become the dominant driver of the swing, not the arms - hip pulls the hands.

Is this BP or just front toss? Unless her game swing is really different I don't think hand path/swing plane is the issue...the issue is the passive, mostly arms swing.

She just does not seem to be engaging her lower body much. If you focus on her hips there is a lot a sway or slide through contact. At heel plat her stance is not very aggressive, I wold think she still has power issue, again assuming this is her game swing and not just a practice swing (although you want them to be similar). If you look at frames 1) Just before rearward movement and foot coming up 2) furthest point back 3) beginning of hands coming forward you will notice the difference between model and your DD it is almost like your DD has not moved but look in the difference from the model swing the aggressiveness and lower half engagements are the big difference in my opinion.

She need to work on frames 2 and 3 getting into that ready position and preparing the lower half so it can be ready to explode and not just swing with the arms

p.s. no I did not read Eric's post first...lol

Just what I wrote above and to put it even more simply, I'd like to see her go from smooth to explosive. It's not a huge thing but I'd like to see a lot more "boom" than smooth, but that may because the video looks to be in slow motion as well so my critique in that regard probably isn't fair.

The hands going back early has been a demon to fix. She complained her hands need to move before she coiled to feel ready. So we added a hand pump ala Barry bonds. Which turned into leaving the hands down near her waist and not floating them back up. Trying to get away from that now. Telling her to start her swing by coiling. It's gonna take awhile to get rid of that habit. Any quick fixes that do t take months to fix?

First of all, she's doing some good things. One of the biggest shortcomings of her swing that I see is her stretch/scap pinch or whatever you want to call it is very minimal and her back leg drive could be more explosive. With that said, Chamberlain exhibits just as little stretch/pinch on her video, although her leg drive is significant, although as mentioned earlier she is a little bit more all back/all forward than most prefer.

I also think she can get into her legs a little more during her swing. I don't mind the tall stance (I actually prefer it) but with most top level hitters if you were to draw a line along the top of their head at the start of the swing their head would be below it at the end. Her level never changes no matter the pitch location. Because she doesn't get lower at any point during her swing it makes it more difficult for her to get on plane, in my opinion.

I agree with her posture . It doesn't change. Front leg ? Change her stance?

I don't think her hands can go back towards catcher much further but they need to go around more. A quick fix cue like back elbow back and knob pointing at the catcher will probably get her into the right position but I'm just not sure it's helpful if she can't put it all together in the sequence/flow of a swing versus just get into mechanical positions and it still does not get her lower half more active which is where the real power will come from. She just has to get the FEEL of forward while coiling down...there are a couple good drills out there a couple folks can probably help I don't have them handy.

It would be nice to see a game swing to see if it is more aggressive preferably full speed, some of these comment might be mute if she is just not engaging in front toss drill correctly....lots of kids only go half speed or go through the motions during drills.

I would like to see a game swing..to me these swings remind me of the first few pitches for some MLB players where they are just getting loose in BP. If you just told her to try and hit the ball as hard as she could is that what her swing would look like?

That said, in these swings I agree with the others regarding lower body usage. Not sure how to instruct that..others will be able to be better inform. Perhaps a slightly narrower stance and a larger
stride will help? While that is a style thing, it might make it a bit easier to use the lower half better..

Anyway all in all not bad. Her barrel path is pretty good so whatever you have done there is 10 times better than what I have been able to do with my DD :) Perhaps just getting
her into a more aggressive mentality will fix some of the perceived issues. Last thing, how is she hitting? Probably what all of us should have asked to begin with

Edit: Just saw the game video. Looks better to me than the BP swings.

It does look like she coils a bit more and uses her lower body a little better than the practice swings but it is still a really short swing. See if other posters chime in with the coiling forward drill if not I'll try a dig it up tomorrow.
