You are going to have to relate this to a baseball/softball swing for me if you want me to follow along. What I am getting is he wants you to pull hard with the lead arm....

Five, correct the flow of bat and body creates the change in barrel direction behind you. Learn to create the change in barrel direction leveraging all available resources. TJ calls it the gyro effect. Done correctly the scaps will become retracted and one will have a tough time hanging on to the bat.

What do you believe the function of the lead arm is in the swing?

The reason I posted this clip was because I recently reviewed Mankins material. In his material the lead arm transfers the rotation and adds power through hand torque. I believe there is a strong pulling action transfer through the lead arm, although you can't help the action. Meaning that if try to help the pulling action you will destroy the pulling action and more then likely end up on the front leg.

TDS, I would be interested in reading up on TJ's gyro effect. If there is a link to a description that would be appreciated.

The body's "inspiration" as he called it .... will have the torso's action transmitted via the lead arm and have the bottom hand pulling. That's why golfers wear a glove on the lead hand. It's why hitters develop thickened calluses on the bottom hand, and not their top hand. It's not a pull as Don Slaught taught it ... which was a lead arm jab forward ... he missed the mark in a major way with that teaching ... it's a pull via the combined lateral tilting and rotation process.
