Shawn, I like your style. You keep the conversations going here in the DFP Tech forum....

I really like this gif to show the differences of swinging around the body vs swinging out from.....

Around vs Out From

In the first clip I can clearly see the difference. Very good example.

Question, Is Mankin right in the Bonds clip that the swing (hands) moves toward the plate first? Is that part of swinging out from the body?

Cabrera has several pivot points.

Curious if you see a front hip pivot point in this swing you posted?

IMO, Cabrera does a good job of getting the front side out of the way. This allows him to perform the "short to" (tight HPP) AND "long through" (out from). If he does not get the front side out of the way, he would not be able to shorten the bat as much as he does. He would then be forced to swing around his body because of his body being in his way (Rotational to linear as you are stating. The linear portion would be blocked, so all that is left is rotational.) Swinging "out from" the body is much easier to see on an outside pitch, but IMO, being able to swing "out from" on an inside pitch makes a huge difference for a hitter. Think of young hitters that consistently smash inside pitches foul...

Yes, Cabrera does a good job of getting the front side out of the way.

Once that action is understood/appreciated/respected, and then learned/embraced/embedded, it can considerably enhance the core's usage/powering in the swing.

5frames,

I think the pivot point shifts as the swing flows. Meaning it starts with the back hip and then shifts to the front hip.

Please post that quote from Mankin about this swing/gif:

(hands) moves toward the plate first
Of course they do. Where should the hands be moving first ......forward.....

I don't think so.

Do you think the 'pivot points' SWIFT though. I don't.
Weight might SWIFT to the middle but, I don't believe the pivot points SHIFT to the front hip. Again JMHO.
