I don't know how many have seen this,

Too_Funny.jpg

When I view a chart like this ... that states "the brain sends signals to the legs to start the batter's stride" ... with the ball just about to cross the plate ... I have to ask myself if the guy has ever been in a batter's box.

I think they might have really meant that the stride is over. That is the only rational answer to why they would say the stride starts at that point.

Hey Shawn ... let's give Adair the benefit of the doubt. Instead of writing "the brain sends signals to the legs to start the batter's stride", let's assume he meant "the brain sends signals to the legs to stop the batter's stride".

Does the revision really make sense to you? Do you think the hitter's brain is sending a message to 'stop' the batter's stride? That's certainly not what is on my mind in the batter's box at that time.

One possibility is that Adair simply screwed up. No question ... he’s a knowledgeable guy … but he likely hasn’t stepped into the batter’s box at a competitive level to understand what it would feel like to initiate the stride that late into a pitch. And let’s face it … he was careless and didn’t bother to confirm what he was writing about.

Good people make mistakes … which is why the Hanson principle is so important.

Hanson Principle:
Always compare what anybody tells you about the swing to slow motion clips of the best hitters in the world”.

Would the graphic be more 'agreeable' if we took out the "Acting" portion of his description, and made it either assumed or, going against what little project management methodology I use, re-order the steps to be "Act / Look / Think / Decide"?

Hey, look - there's that "Yes, Yes, No" thing again...

Anyone have video of MLB hitters initiating their stride just prior to impact?

No one can produce MLB video showing the bat moving towards the ball with the front foot in the air, so the answer is no!

If Adair said swing starts at heel plant it would be closer to the truth. Before heel plant its just looking thinking deciding.
