No one can produce MLB video showing the bat moving towards the ball with the front foot in the air, so the answer is no!
If Adair said swing starts at heel plant it would be closer to the truth. Before heel plant its just looking thinking deciding.
Just out of curiousity, why do you insist on defining the swing purely based upon the bat movement. Is it because the rules of the game use that action to define a strike?
I am not picking a fight, I am genuinely curious as to your thinking here.
If I told you to swing the bat as best you could wouldn't you need to do all of the upstream stuff correctly, before the barrel is moving towards the ball, in order to comply with my wish?
To me a swing is an action with the intent of hitting the ball as hard and as far as possible.
