DJ - Thanks for posting the frame by frame comparison. It really helps to see it broken down like that. We will continue to make adjustments until we get there.

After seeing the stills of Chamberlain you might be thinking DD rear foot seems like Chamberlains. So, what is my DD doing that isn't the same.

FFS, what is your advice or plan for hitters that begin to learn and feel how to create stretch and sequence off a tee but freeze up or shortcut when facing a pitch come at them? For me I just try to have them do focused work and reps, see if they can keep the good stuff in their swing at soft front toss and eventually build it into a machine or game swing. Any further advice on leaping the chasm from tee to game swings? TKs.

This happens. A kid can begin to get it correct off of a tee and not get it when they see a ball in flight.

One of the tee drills I'll introduce such a hitter to is the "feet together, step and hit drill". Here I'm looking for the "walking away from the hands" type sequence.

Then I'll have another coach or parent front-toss. I then repeat the drill ... but give it a different name ... "Timing and Sequence". Now the timing of the rear hip moving forward must be timed to the pitcher's release .... once that is happening I 'ask' that the sequence be in tact. Timing & Sequence. I setup a protective screen beyond the opposite batter's box ... and I give loud verbal feedback ... and I'm not shy ... I want my feedback to overrule the feedback of the result of their swing. I'm the judge and jury .

Once this is working effectively I direct the kid to put the "Timing and Sequence" into their normal swing .... and again, I give feedback on every swing ... I will comment if they were not on time to move forward and I will comment if they are not in sequence. A few failures and it's back to the "Timing & Sequence" drill with the feet together.

This is a must. Young hitters must get this ... or else they will have a short career ... hence the reason my feedback is not shy ... I'm doing this for them.

FFS - Thanks for all the feedback and the pictures. Those really help. I'm starting to understand more, especially the stretch and the Shift and Swing, or Pivot to Swing. I can at least see those deficiencies in her swing now. Once the stretch, and Pivot to Swing is achieved, how do you teach the lateral tilt? Thanks

I generally demo it. While demoing it I explain that my shoulders are resisting opening up .... and I make a hand gesture to show how I feel that the core is 'twisting'.

There's a bunch of little drills I'll use to help get the feel. Depends on the hitter.

Tks FFS. I like practical hitting session stuff like this, very useful.

Lateral tilt is a big part of "pivot the swing".

Lateral tilt, or what is commonly referred to as lateral side bend, is basically a side bend back towards the catcher.

From a core perspective, the lateral side bend and rotation occur at the same time. The lateral bending action provides a braking action to the upper core ... i.e., the shoulder line. This is what yields the "hips ahead of shoulders". It's a twisting core-like action ... a combination of lateral tilt and rotation.

In the video from the original post ... the young girl lacks the lateral side bend action.

She basically trys to rotate. She needs to learn to bend her body sideways and rotate at the same time.

The side bend is a crucial part of the softball/baseball swing. Very rarely will you see a good player that doesn’t have an efficient side bend, in combination with rotation, in their swing.
