Some of the phrases I'll use with hitters include .... "walk away from the hands", "forward and prepare-to-throw", "separation", "pull back against a forward moving hip", "forward-by-coiling", "forward and stretch", "forward as we take the slack out of the core", "forward as we take the ball out of the glove" etc.

The rear hip gains ground as the rear arm prepares to throw (sidearm throw).

Example ... red lines show forward movement of the rear hip, green lines show top hand movement:

Notice how there is a greater movement forward with the red line (rear hip) than with the green line (hands).

Another example (... this one without a stride):

FFS, what is your advice or plan for hitters that begin to learn and feel how to create stretch and sequence off a tee but freeze up or shortcut when facing a pitch come at them? For me I just try to have them do focused work and reps, see if they can keep the good stuff in their swing at soft front toss and eventually build it into a machine or game swing. Any further advice on leaping the chasm from tee to game swings? TKs.

Correct. I call it the 'look'. People see how some hitters look at finish with their rear foot and believe that is what to teach. Most miss what gets the rear foot on some hitters to finish like that. So, all the good stuff is bypassed in order to quickly get to the look. Therefore 'bleeding' all their power and left with just a 'push' arm swing. They miss all the upstream stuff that happens in the rear hip/leg area.

The foot to China is just something she does, as is most of her swing. Thanks for the advice on taking some cuts with the idea of NEVER LETTING YOUR REAR HEEL LEAVE THE GROUND. I understand there are no simple fixes or drills, but we have to start some where.

You just cannot shift your weight across if you learn to contract the scap/rear torso muscles towards the spine and don't release.

Of course finding the 'lateral tilt' will be difficult when there is no 'stretch'.

FFS - Thanks for all the feedback and the pictures. Those really help. I'm starting to understand more, especially the stretch and the Shift and Swing, or Pivot to Swing. I can at least see those deficiencies in her swing now. Once the stretch, and Pivot to Swing is achieved, how do you teach the lateral tilt? Thanks

A couple things...

The weight all forward is the big issue here; but obviously its just a symptom of incorrect sequencing.

The heel not leaving ground is a drill for feel purposes so she can feel the rotational portion of the swing which is almost non existent now and not how she is going to be hitting live.

Whether you call it stretch or contraction I don't think matters most of these things are cues anyway about how things feel and not the anatomical and physiological things that are happening. We all know what we mean and can see if it is happening in the swing or lacking.

@Hube11 this should help you better see what's going on and what's not. Frame 3 is heel plant and frame 6 is contact
