Yes, I would agree and wouldn't you agree that if you make it to MLB, you're probably pretty darn good and better than the average dad swinging a bat. LOL

I would agree!

I just feel like why not shoot for the stars and try to swing it like those elite guys.....

Please don't get me wrong, I agree. Heck, I still swing it and I have to have my right hip replaced. It can be ugly at times but I jump in to demonstrate this or that and show my hitters that the old guy can still drive the ball. My response was more of a don't be disappointed if you don't match type of post. You and I both know that swinging the bat is really important to the process. In fact, that is a part of common response to posters that any advice has to make sense to them. Swing the bat helps people break down various pieces of advice.

I have no problem with you calling is out from the body. Yes the swing gets thrown out from the body or you get off the merry-go-round. So I have no problem with saying this swing is out from the body when discussing the actions being shown above. In the clips in the thread I posted swinging out from the body has a different meaning.

Here's a thought, Mankin says you rotate all the way through/to contact maintaining BHT or a pull all the way to contact. Does this mean never getting off the merry-go-round? No rotational to linear action?

Shawn, if you get a chance please go back to that thread ... I believe in post #5 FP26 spoke of it as I am also speaking of it.

So you disagree with the action? Or just how the kid is doing it?

I think of the two actions as the gears shown before. Done separately they don't represent the swing well, although when you swivel/snap or pronate whatever you want to call it, the swing looks normal with the lowerbody/hips combined with the upper gear. They have to synced together to make the swing look normal.

5frames,

That is messed up what he is showing to that kid.

There are several folks here that took offense to the other video (with the "oarlock" analogy) ... suggesting that they've been instructed by TM and he has never spoken of that. They appear to favor more of what you refer to as the "messed up" instruction shown here .....

In the video with the kid there is no structure in the forearms, it is mainly just the hands working. In other videos like the clinic there is structure in the swivel, nothing like what the kid and Richard are doing in the clip.

You are a funny guy man.....Do you speak with Rich often?

I honestly was not trying to be funny. Simply comparing the differences given regarding the roles being instructed for rear arm usage. In one demonstration the rear arm is yanking the barrel rearward. In the other demonstration the top hand is serving as a pivot point with a pulling action taking place through the lead arm.

Shawn referred to the barrel yank instruction as messed up. IMO he is correct.

What is proper rear arm instruction? How do you instruct the student to pivot that top hand?

While trying the 'yank it back' and coupling the motion with a hip turn, the bat gets on the proper plane and you can feel the (hard to put into words) 'auto pilot'. What is a better way to instruct students?
