Back on the dirt...
To me as a layman coach, the Hanson principle isn't about what techniques to specifally coach, but more about seeing what high level hitters do: To use what I see in slow motion game swings as the truth. Not necessarily just a slow motion swing.

It is a beautiful swing. But what really turns the barrel, hands, forearms or back folding under.... this swing reminds me of what Justin Stone describes in his continuous pinch drill. Also I am not seeing the lead elbow action in this clip as illustrated in the previous Instructor clips.

Do you guys have any idea how trying to copy this swing would lead to casting

You will not see the late lead arm pronation motion that is being advocated when you look at video of the best hitters.

Only one way to find out. Pick up a bat and duplicate it. The guy in the videos being displayed did that. And he produces students who can duplicate that. Dozens of professional baseball players who are in that pattern.........

Hey julray, first post here, but have been reading the site for a little bit, and have come to get the feel that some are trying to twist the camera lens to intentionally throw things out of focus...just saying.

To be fair, I'm a big "turn the barrel" guy, and have been for a long time. That said, let me just ask you this...are you able to turn your hands without turning your wrist and/or forearms. Can you turn just your forearms without turning your wrists or hands? IOWs, please don't get caught up in the minutia of what little bone may be do what, but rather try to understand the overall concept of getting the barrel turning back behind the hitter, and creating a barrel path the is "behind and through" the ball, rather than "down and to" it.

If you copy her barrel path to get "behind and through" the ball no, it would not. But if you simply drop the barrel flat behind the hitters shoulder, and then sweep the barrel "around" instead of "out" from the body, then yes, there is a good chance that a hitter could then "cast" the swing out wide swing around her body, and not "out from it".

JMHO, and what do I know, YMMV. Good luck to you, and your DD.

Shawn, lead arm pronation in the swing is not “late”, but “early” … just as Donnie has documented. However, acknowledging that may have folks accepting that the lead arm is largely involved in the initial arcing of the barrel … as Donnie had also documented … and not due to a rear arm yanking backwards mechanic as demonstrated here …

Funny for me to read these various ideas. How would one apply Epstein's ideas about the weather vane in some of these examples? Would these be over exaggerations of weather vanning?

It might be an exaggeration of weather vaning, although I think Epstein's tilt has more to do with what happens in the swing.

Or better yet, IMO, see if you can find a student of his who is hitting at a high level and ask them what they are thinking about/feeling when they try to incorporate his instruction. I think TM does a great job but he isn't the one hitting against 95 mph fastballs.

I have, I've picked up a bat and literally tried. Elbow juts up an awkward angle and I loose control of the bat. Thats if I'm trying what the guy did in the video... now if I try to dup Bustos swing, that feels natural. Having trouble seeing correlation between what the instructor is doing and what Bustos is doing. Of course they are both turning the barrel, one way just looks a lot more awkward then the other... sorry Ian not seeing any hitters doing what is instructed in their swings. Maybe somebody can provide a side by side and explain to me how what is being instructed is performed by a good hitter during a game swing... or even practice for that matter
