Definately throw overhand. I have been doing it that way, for 40 years. Also, use tennis balls, if you want a safer ball.

Have you tried the drill where you throw the tennis balls to her, so that it bounces about 3 feet from her, but comes up into the strike zone. Trying to hit those are fun. Bustos hit a pitch, that bounced into her, over the fence, once.

Not uncommon to see baseball players receiving underhand front toss.

I have seen the same thing. That said, for a young softball player, I still don't recommend that dad/coach tosses BP overhand. I prefer that the player sees a trajectory that more closely mimics what they will see in games, and adjusting their pitching position in order to provide that condition is a reasonable approach (IMO).

I'm trying this suggestion from Performance Hitting Lab- all used in the same batting practice (underhand)
15-20 feet ...small ball (golf ball size wiffle or foam ball)
30 feet...baseball
live pitching when available with a softball

I use those golf wiffles..unfortunately they fit in between the spacings of the net I use for protection with wiffles (bownet). Ouch!!!

There is a video out there of Bryce Harper in his pre-game warmup (before BP) and the coach is throwing front toss underhand. It actually makes sense from the short distance
since the trajectory would be more natural than if you threw overhand.

We just bought some bird netting to solve that problem... it's really cheap

The concensus seems to be, hit a lot of balls thrown at different trajectories. Sounds like a solid plan for hitters who will face drop, rise, curve and screwballs.

I tried to hit a bouncing ball in barbados once. It was a pick up game in the park. Didn't go well. I pitched ok. Had better luck on the basketball court.

DD and I attended a softball instruction camp with Bustos in Atlanta, she placed 3 softball flat on the ground using a 28 inch bat and hit them off the ground into a net with authority. She is so impressive as an athlete, instructor and a person.

I also like the tennis ball drill as you described.
