Sometimes it's best to take a step back and get input from others to ensure we are heading down the right path. Here is the video of her swing off the tee https://youtu.be/XjorZ7WAOoY

There a few things that really stick out to me, but just wanting hear from others because maybe I am looking at this all wrong.

Thank you in advance

The best advice I can give you is to start reading through the forum. I will say that your DD is doing a lot of things that are not desirable in an efficient swing but she is young and you guys have plenty time to get it figured out if you are willing to put in the time and effort.

Most 10 year olds do have many areas to address.............Here ya go Matt

I'd always advise people to start with barrel turn. Check out your DD's barrel action compared to Manny's. What is your DD doing to get her barrel to the ball? What is Manny doing?

Spartans- Thank you for posting that up for me

As far as what stands out to me:

1. No movement through the ball. All of her weight remains back and therefore she is the stereotypical "bug squisher"
2. Little to no load
3. Steps away from the ball and often times finds herself falling backwards if I ask her to hold her finished swing
4. Her hands start her swing and the swing is very rotational
5. Early wrist roll over
6. She finishes low and across the chest, due to her swing plane and wrist roll
7. Bat drag
8. Drops the rear shoulder
9. Front leg tends to be soft and front foot stays closed not allowing hips to come through
10. A lot of head movement
11. Seems that her swing is very rear arm dominant

She's often frustrated because coach told her to do it one way but at a camp or a hitting instructor told her to do it another way. Again, I realize she is an early 10 and just learning, however, I would like to break these bad habits as early as possible and get her on the right track. At this time, I have the facility and time to work with her a couple of time per week and want to be as beneficial as possible without creating more of a problem. We are currently incorporating a lot of tee work )walk up drill, stork drill, front arm tee work, and working slowly through proper swing mechanics. I haven't started but can see where frisbee drills may help her as well. I am just looking to identify the biggest issues and find some drills to help correct these issues. I know there is no magic bullet here, but the girl puts in a lot of time and has the drive and motivation to become a better player. Again, any input is much appreciated.

Sounds like you have a good idea on what problems your DD has. My daughter also suffered from (DBSF) Drop Barrel Swing Flat swing pattern. The single most helpful thing we worked on was turning the barrel. I took a piece of duct tape and ran it down one side the length of the barrel. When she was in position (batters box) she would have the tape facing the catcher and I would tell her to hit the ball with the tapped side of the barrel. I will also say that it is ok to start out working this on the tee but I would suggest to do this same drill while doing front toss as soon as possible. Hitting off of the tee will do very little to help fix DBSF. Remember to keep the barrel vertical at launch.

Good Luck

It sounds like you have a pretty good grasp on the issues. She wants to adjust and then attack, dropping the backside (hands/barrel/back shoulder) and then swing.

I see some loading. A little shift back with the legs, hips.

Burn this swing into you brain. Now that you have seen it you can see the elbow leading, then barrel flattening the hands dropping, etc., etc., in real time. You can stamp it out much faster by correcting it quickly after each swing.

A few things to try. Place a ball next to her back foot, the ball should remain in the same place. Right now it wouldn't in the swing posted.

Take a bat a dowel, broom stick, anything (heck you could even use your hand as guide) and place in somewhere under the bat in the stance. Just something where you can make them think about not dropping the barrel behind the body.

And lastly have her back up to the net, back foot against the net. This will help the focus of not doing so much behind the body, leaning back, dropping the barrel behind the body, squashing the bug, it really makes them think about swinging forward.
