RHC I love to meet up with you guys and let the girls mash together but unfortunately I've lost my dad privileges of dropping her off at college now, lol. She's all grown up now living off campus so she drives herself. Who said watching your kids grow up was fun?

Lhowser,

I'll be honest I'm not seeing what you are seeing in regards to swing being longer and losing spacing. I think most of her problems relate to not having her lower half and using other body parts to power the swing.

I've seen some improvements the last couple of days with her lower Hal's but I only have 1 more day before she heads back to work a camp and start the grind all over again.

I'm planning on getting some video tomorrow and I'll post it

I will try to grab the video and look in slow mo myself. I could be totally wrong. You've got a pretty good eye on this. Always admired that swing.

Ok this is from a couple weeks ago. This past February she had to have reconstructive surgery on her right knee and had to redshirt her freshman year. She was released to do hitting only this fall and managed to get some AB's. Towards the end of fall she started to feel like her old self and was driving the ball again. She even managed to go yard against another D1.

During the recovery process she really struggled trusting her knee again enough to engage her lower half. We did a bunch of hand path drills while working on the lower half again.

In this video she's starting to get her lower half back again so that's promising. All in all I'm very pleased with where she's at. The year off really made her realize how much she loves this game. It also made her mature quite a bit so that's definitely a positive.

As always feel free to leave any observation or question and I will gladly try to help. I'm not a computer wizard by any means but if anyone wants to make a gif and post it here feel free,

Thank you for sharing. I have a friend that is currently recovering from knee surgery as well. She has not received her full release yet, so we have not started any hitting work at all. She will end up missing her freshman year of college but hopes to be ready for tryouts in the fall. I have been working with her for nearly three years and want to do what I can to get her back where she was, but the bold above is my biggest fear with the process. What did Brooke work on (if anything) before she received her medical release?

Best of luck to Brooke on her recovery!! She is an excellent role model for the other moms/dads on this board.

FP,

The only thing she did was hand drills last season. She was released this past July I believe to do light hitting and nothing MAJOR until she got back to school so they could monitor her.

I'll be completely honest in that she's still scared to hurt it again and miss another year. She's making headway but she can't do a whole lot of hitting without it hurting her.

The only thing I can tell you or anyone else is that they have to be pushed past heir comfort level if they're going to make it back.

Brooke's injury was a knee dislocation and complete tear of the patellofemoral ligament which keeps the kneecap in place. The surgery was way more invasive and severe than I thought it was going to be, so her recovery has been arduous.

Sorry to hear about that. With double surgery on my right knee I probably have an idea of how it feels for her. It's a tough feeling. It takes time, a lot of time, and to be honest to this day it still doesn't feel quite right swinging but I'd be hopeful she can get most of her drive back, the great majority.

Has she swung left handed? She seems really athletic...

Based on my experience with DD's ACL replacement, you should expect to experience different but similar issues if it was the front knee that was surgically repaired. In DD's case, her return to catching seemed to be more of a stress test than hitting. Prior to Crank's posts, I suspected that it would've been better if it had been DD's rear knee that required ACL replacement, but now I'm not so sure.

Regardless, at some point after having the medical OK, it comes down to mentally trusting that the doc did the job right and you go all out and let the chips fall where they may. In DD's case, she did it HS Jr year and the knee is still good to go today after playing through college.

The severity of her injury and the surgery was far more than what we originally thought. The doctor told her that this surgery was harder to come back from than an ACL. She had a teammate tear her ACL this fall and have reconstructive surgery and she's already been released to do activities. I think more than anything it's just this particular injury and surgery that's causing these issues.

So for kids/parents don't fret. Modern medicine is amazing. We will just see what this year holds for us and pray that it's good, lol
