Some Alex Hugo HitTrax data - the distances look way too far for those Exit Velocity/Launch Angles though.

On Hit Trax, in regards to Exit Velocity, how far does the Hit Trax actually track the ball? 30'?...100'?... Can it track ball spin?
Is Hit Trax always used inside of a hitting facility?
Or can it be used outdoors, on a softball field and you can compare real world data against what Hit Trax computes?
Does the Hit Trax use a standard or generic style radar gun for calculations, like a Pocket Coach or a Bushnell radar gun?
Or is the Hit Trax Radar gun top of the line and does it give much more accurate readings?
Is there a Hit Trax chart somewhere where we could compare the data we see in our batting cages at home?
ie. exit velocity and ball angle. Ball angle is easy enough to figure out by placing markings in the batting cage netting, just as long as you keep the batting tee in the same place for reference.
After checking online, I'm guessing the best bet is to travel to the nearest Hit Trax cage (4-5 hours for us) and check out your DD's numbers?
Thanks

The system does not track the ball’s spin (which has been shown to have an important impact on the distance a fly ball travels) but instead makes its calculation based on the first few feet of trajectory captured by the cameras.

I'm very skeptical of it's accuracy though. The distances are almost definitely too far for a given velo/LA, and the actual exit velocities might be a bit inflated too. It would be fun to try out, and could still be useful if you went regularly, but I personally wouldn't drive that far. A swing tracker, while less fun, would probably be better for you.

What exit velocity and launch angle would you need to hit a 210 Ft Home-run off tee? I know there are other variables just looking for an estimate/ball park numbers. Thanks!

This is a great question. There are a lot of variables involved and some top physicists have studied this issue heavily for a baseball which behaves similarly to a softball. I can point you to some great data that can help with the optimal launch angles. Take a look at the ESPN Home Run Tracker page that shows all of this data on Ball Exit Velocity and Launch Angle versus carry distance on every home run in the major leagues. You can find the link about half way down our hitting page at this web-site:

We spend a lot of time studying the physics of a softball and baseball in flight. If you ever have any questions we are always happy to help. Call me at 888.381.2672 and we can go into more details. Thanks,
