Maybe this will help. "Float" occurs just prior to launch. Essentially the hitter is beginning to determine location and is adjusting the placement of the barrel in order to get it into the correct launch position. But this movement occurs in such a way that it doesn't hinder the hitter's ability to get to the ball. The barrel starts to move in its arc as the location is being determined, and can then suddenly be launched in the direction of the ball (running start).
