May I recommend having her do a round or two of tee work from the "pre-loaded/post-step position". This should help her to focus on the plane of the bat and throwing her hands hands through the zone. In my opinion, it looks like she is too concerned with the follow-through and looking to see where the ball goes. By focusing solely on exploding and using her already established weight rather than loading and stepping, she can focus on keeping her head down and minimal emphasis of shifting her weight. You may also want to try contact-reload drill.

Do you mind elaborating on the bold above? Edited to add: Never mind I understand what you are getting at here. We do practice the command drill.

I do not believe she is trying to explode. When I think of "exploding" I think of a muscled up swing with lots of effort going into it.

Confused. If you land with pelvis open, aren't you losing all the coil/energy you created? It would seem to me all the cool left would be on the back which is fine, but this seems to defeat the purpose of a lower body coil.

If you wait until after foot plant to start the lower body action, you're building a shift-then-swing pattern. The pelvis should start opening prior to foot plant. Tewks' drill is about understanding the feeling of the pivot happening in the rear hip socket, rather than turning the foot open by turning just the front leg.

In the context of a swing, I see "exploding" as the rightNOW! swing launch that happens when the hitter creates resistance/tension in their body.

Just to add to what Eric stated, I believe if you do not get pelvis open it will be difficult to get the feeling of dropping the pelvis behind the hip/rear leg as Tweks talks about in the video. Look at the 2 gifs that Spartans posted.

Leave it alone! She has better attributes in her swing than 99.5% of the girls out there. If anything, I would just talk about having hands closer to her rear shoulder, a tighter power < in the right arm, and more of a L in the left arm. BUT if she is squaring up balls, leave it alone!

Yea I agree Eric and I believe that is what she is probably getting at. I just try not to tell DD to explode instead I refer to it as release. DD has told me that she thinks of muscling up when someone tells her to just explode.

Fair enough. Paying attention to how the student processes certain words and phrases is an important part of being an effective teacher. Go with what works for your DD. To me, "explode" is a release.

Can you describe what you feel the hands should be doing in a high level swing?

RHC,
I love when you post, you are one of the good ones, but leave it alone? What fun is that! I think in most cases the pitching is eventually going to catch up to you....
