I don't understand...

How was she able to hit the ball with all that pre-swing motion?

She sure got lucky on both swings - the ball isn't supposed to travel that far with an upper-cut swing like that. I'm surprised the coach didn't bench her for not swinging down on the ball.

And what's with that bat lag and barrel turning - all those "knob to the ball" drills, wasted!

But what really gets me is that it looks like she keeps her back elbow up until "launch". Did Daddy teach you that? That's just going to create a long swing - which won't work against better pitching at the 12U level.

Definitely didn't look like a SOFTBALL swing.

//sarcasm off//

I hope my daughters can be as "lucky" as yours. :)

But seriously - maybe it's the camera angle, but look how far up in the box she is. She's giving herself a lot of "buffer room" to move backwards if she needs to adjust to a pitcher throwing an extra 5-10 mph. And if this was 62-63, 68-73 mph is what - D1? 18U Gold-elite-platinum-showcase level?

Great swings. (And I know it may be verboten to say this - but I love that it looks like they're playing on real grass!)

Also just noticed in the initial video, her rear foot starts overhanging the mat. I'm assuming this is on purpose. Does she feel it's helped her with keeping pressure on the inside of her foot?

Yes..when in clay she likes to dig in and have her rear foot slightly angled. She feels a better connection to the ground when loading around her rear hip. On turf she likes to have that mat to replicate that feeling since she cant dig in.

This is what rhythm, timing, and tempo look like. All three are required to hit pitching of that caliber. Just outstanding stuff, stuff that isn't taught much by instructors or coaches, nor talked enough about in here.

I like the rhythm, tempo as well. Good stuff.

She start's to prepare early as well. Not rushed.
