So Cal
The first things that jump out at me...
- All-back/All-forward swing pattern
- Lunging and reaching forward to contact, creating a downward barrel path to contact.

We want to see a movement pattern that creates stretch/separation and resistance/tension. This happens with getting the sequence of movements correct.

Her way-out-front contact point, and the body position she gets to (torso leaning forward) is creating a downward barrel bath at contact. Miss high or hit square, this is a ground ball. Miss low, and it's a pop-up.

This video seems to be helping a lot of people with a beginning understanding of an improved swing sequence, so I'll post it again...

Thank you. It looks like this drill will really help with creating separation. Would you expect that improvement in this aspect of her swing will improve her lean forward and her barrel path as well?

This is what she needs to be able to feel and looks like. http://www.discussfastpitch.com/softball-hitting-technical/29637-needing-some-help-10u-swing.html#post409236

I tried something last night that works if you have a DVR, watch Sports Center or Baseball Tonight. Every time they show a clip with the side view of someone hitting the ball pause it right before they lift their stride foot then hit the slo forward button and watch is slowly. Every hitter no matter what kind of stance and mannerism they have begins loading back lower half and beginning back hands in upper half as the front foot comes forward then they all get HERE when their foot comes down, you can do all day long and everyone looks really close to the same.

Here's what I see on THIS SWING....What a different swing/hit it would have been/may have been if your DD moved up in the box. Why do I say that, because from what I could/can see this pitcher was really slow. This pitchers reminded me of an arc ball pitcher. Your DD has a lot of unnecessary movement (out of sequence) hopefully because of the slowww pitching and possible not sure when to start her negative movement/load. If this is how your DD always bats/hits with this non-load but, false load, sway back then let us know. So 'we' can help and I will address what I see as such.

As RDB said, this may (or may not be) dependent on pitch trajectory and/or location.

Get the sequence sorted out first. A proper sequence is the foundation for everything else.

THIS ^^^^

Like rdbass commented...wouldn't want to over analyze one swing. Looks to me like she loads twice, and the first load looks better than the second...and this does look like a very slow pitch that may have messed her up. I would say...the hands don't separate away from the stride foot, and she's a swinging gate..everything is happening at once rather than in a rapid sequence. Fortunately & unfortunately...if she works on these things she will likely be quicker to the ball...and have to work on getting used to new timing. Like in the video Eric posted...put some emphasis on the loading part of her swing being slow and under control...ready to pull the trigger.

Thanks guys, really appreciate all the great feed back. Unfortunately, the double load is what she does in games. She also does it when we do front toss unless we constantly remind her to focus on avoiding it. I'm hoping that getting separation will help correct this. Interestingly, she never double loads on the tee.

Double load...is she transitioning from striding/toe touch early (before deciding to swing) to striding with her swing after deciding? I'm just taking a wild guess...but I would ask her what she is thinking about with her stride. If the double load is common for her...then she is starting her swing too early, stopping, and starting again. To me there are 3 acceptable ways to stride...no stride, early before deciding to swing, after deciding to swing. Maybe the loading phase and sequence aren't as bad as they look in the video...just getting screwed up with the starting and stopping. Maybe she's being (or been) taught to stride early...but feels more comfortable striding out with her swing, or that's become her muscle memory...she may not even realize she is doing both. IF she's going to stride early it has to be real light, she can't put enough weight on that foot to stop and start again. If she's going to step with her swing...she can't also stride early too. A lot of good in the swing...I'm thinking she's just a little mixed up now.
