Can u help me understand what r the benefits of the SNF drills? 45 degrees and 90 degrees. Is it to feel the hips coiling? Is it to feel the lower and upper body work together? I have looked at some of the old post but a lot of the video example are no long available. I just want to be able to explain the benefits of the drills.

Thanks!

So Cal
My understanding is that the SNF drill is to emphasize the feeling of coiling around the rear hip, resisting with the upper body and hands, and turning the barrel behind the hip. This would apply to a swing concept that is primarily rear-leg/hip driven, which not everyone agrees with.

Not a bad start by EricF.

Add to this that it can be used as a progression drill (90-deg, 45-deg, normal) to teach/emphasize that the swing is on the right side of the body (for RH hitters) ... i.e., in the sagittal plane ... swinging "out from".

Others will likely add more.

The SNF can be used for the rear hip feeling, and it can be used for both hips to get the feel of flex and extension.
When used for just the rear hip your swing is powerful, yet there is a lack of control.
Last year i started having some of the newer players hit from the SNF 45 two legged control position in games.

rear leg try from me.

FFS brings up some additional good points. IMO, for a rear-leg/hip driven swing concept, SNF is one of the most productive drills you can do.

Agree with EricF on the 45-degree drill being useful. I use the drill myself for in my own BP warm-up.

Add another point ... beyond with helping build the points-of-emphasis relative to the lower body and upper body, you can also use the drill to stress synchronization of the upper/lower as the point-of-emphasis.

Eric, can u elaborate on this above? Do u have any videos for examples?

I will try to explain what I do and feel, based on my understanding (RH batter)...

Stand with your chest and hips facing the pitcher, with a majority of your weight over your right leg.
Turn your shoulders clockwise 90 degrees, and pull back your hands and rear elbow to launch position.
Do not allow your right knee to turn outward (keep your kneecap facing the pitcher).
You should feel tension/resistence around your rear hip (there will be flexion in the hip), on the inside of your right thigh, up the right side of your back, and in your scap.
Your front shoulder will get pulled a little down and in.
Pull back as far as you can.
Your hands will be behind your rear hip.
Now, fire/thrust the rear hip forward (I feel a lot of involvement with the muscles of my lower back)
For me, I get the feeling of the hands being launched very suddenly.
