Alex Hugh explains her stance and swing.
NPF: Akron Racers
KL: So about your stance and swing, it’s quite unique but ultimately gets the job done and works for you. Why do you think you’re able to be so successful with such a unique approach?
AH: My biggest thing on hitting is that if you’re comfortable, I think you’re going to hit well. I know my freshman year when I was at the University of Kansas, my swing was different than it is now. Things got changed there and I didn’t really feel comfortable. I felt like I was standing in cement every time I was in the box. So, I kind of just made my swing up and made myself feel comfortable and didn’t really analyze it.
KL: Is there anyone you think swings similarly to you, man or woman?
AH: I think my swing is similar to Josh Donaldson’s. He is someone who I can see has his own style and he’s doing what he’s comfortable with and I think that’s awesome. I watched baseball all the time growing up and I saw different, unique swings. That’s why I thought it was cool that I have something different.
In the 50 games with the Kansas Jayhawks, she hit .428 and had a team-leading 15 home runs. She added 47 RBI and had 68 hits as a freshman.
She did not feel comfortable? OK!
