Alex Hugh explains her stance and swing.

NPF: Akron Racers

KL: So about your stance and swing, it’s quite unique but ultimately gets the job done and works for you. Why do you think you’re able to be so successful with such a unique approach?

AH: My biggest thing on hitting is that if you’re comfortable, I think you’re going to hit well. I know my freshman year when I was at the University of Kansas, my swing was different than it is now. Things got changed there and I didn’t really feel comfortable. I felt like I was standing in cement every time I was in the box. So, I kind of just made my swing up and made myself feel comfortable and didn’t really analyze it.

KL: Is there anyone you think swings similarly to you, man or woman?

AH: I think my swing is similar to Josh Donaldson’s. He is someone who I can see has his own style and he’s doing what he’s comfortable with and I think that’s awesome. I watched baseball all the time growing up and I saw different, unique swings. That’s why I thought it was cool that I have something different.

In the 50 games with the Kansas Jayhawks, she hit .428 and had a team-leading 15 home runs. She added 47 RBI and had 68 hits as a freshman.

She did not feel comfortable? OK!

Nice. Thanks for posting another thing I found interesting about her was that she only hit 6 HR's as a senior in high school

Would want more info on that. DD's high school field is 230 feet all the way around. If you play only 15 games, in tough conference, home field is big and nobody pitches to you, then 6 could be pretty good.
