It's about the swing pattern being executed by one of the best hitters ever to play softball (Crystl Bustos) vs. a drill that reinforces a COMPLETELY different pattern.

Eric, your point is clear. I agree the two clips show conflicting mechanics. BTW I laughed hard during her interview at last summer's nationals in Irvine where she said she was a .500 career bunter. She clarified she was 1 for 2. :)

The drill shown is intended to be a reverse-top-hand drill that is done poorly and promotes pushing of the bat into contact.

Thanks, I was just looking at the apparatus under her back foot and equating that to a drill I use with my DD where I put a board under her back foot.

Show a little restraint FFS- you know there is a whole contingent of folks on here who agree with the HI content. Why not keep this thread clean of the wars and post videos that you know we all agree is HOS worthy. Otherwise this just devolves again.

Didn't mean to start a war. I just think those particular videos are horrendous! Maybe it makes sense in some context but I don't see it in the videos. And that's a young kid so I don't see where he would have anything to relate it to. He's going to believe that's the basic swing. Maybe an advanced batter, who already knows how to swing, could get something from it.

To me, this swing is a chipper swing------results in chipping the ball (a lot of pop-ups or misses)

I disagree.....as I'm sure others will disagree with me.

I was referring to the clips FFS posted. Are you referring to those, also? I don't see a correlation between those and the ones in your post. The bat in the ones FFS posted is near vertical.

It goes back to the whole issue of isolating something out of context. That drill that is shown is to get a feel for turning the barrel. It is simply step one of a series. Take that action as a first move and put it on the correct lower body action and you will no longer see a barrel dump but a barrel turn to contact. That is the theory anyway. My kids are still works in progress. But I have seen goood before and after results from others doing the same thing.
