"It's not an extension drill. It's a hand resistance drill. It makes the hitter turn the barrel while the hands are back and means that only the rotation takes the hands forward and not the arms taking the hands forward.

Have the player keep his back elbow up. Tell him to make it stay up. Then while he is doing that tell him to get the barrel behind the ball that's sitting on a Tee. But tell him he can't let the elbow drop. He has to fight and keep it up and turn the barrel with his hands. Swivel the top hand in a circle. But make him keep the elbow up.

That's what the reverse top hand drill does. It makes the hitter turn the barrel while indirectly keeping the rear elbow up because the change in the hand position.

It's not an extension drill. It's a deep whoosh drill. "

This is the simplest, best explanation of turning the barrel I've seen...easily

Thanks swingbuilder and rdbass for reposting it

Ok. I just wrote an essay and my phone died. Had a rough scrimmage tonight...and if beers were dog years I would be 1 1/2 right now.

Summary: this girl was not taught the high level swing at that time. No blame, no one was teaching it to girls. By simple forcing her to turn the barrel....the swing is great! High level. So you folks complain it is "too technical" to teach young girls. "Remember we are dealing with young ladies." The dad of the girl in the video was not struggling to teach his dd the hls....NO...hell he was against most of it at that time....BUT...by her being forced to turn the barrel, the rest of her body falls into place, into a great high level swing.....look at the deep woosh. Look at the hands staying on the right side of her torso near her shoulder until the barrel that has been launched by the rear leg pulls them out. Look at her back pulling back against the rear leg turning forward...because you can't push the barrel forward.
You don't see it in many girls.

So it's so tough, huh? She got the results with anti teaching. I have said 109 times now. Teach your kid to stretch/coil the rear hip socket...the hip stretched around the rear leg. AND teach them to turn the barrel around their hands. THAT IS IT!!!! Simple! It will take work to build. It will fail and fall apart against good pitching at times. But that is the 2 main points that the whole swing is based on. The rear hip engine and the hand engine. If it is too technical, you #1. Are not swinging and feeling it for yourself. And #2 Over thinking it before doing #1.

Turning the barrel and pulling back to launch it forward not making sense? Watch some Prince Fielder. He pulls back so hard he sometimes almost falls over backward.

Heck, Fielder doesn't even visibly coil that much… but he is getting stretched with the barrel turn and pull back.

Just turn the barrel.
