This is a video of my DD at her batting lesson. Her hitting instructor is working with her on not dropping her hands out away from her body during this lesson. You'll notice the "hitch" that often shows up in her swing on the first swing in the video. It often looks like she's rolling her hands before or during contact, as her travel ball coaches have showed her on their iPad. I'm hoping FFS can do his video magic and slow it down so we can maybe get a better picture of that motion she's doing. Sometimes it looks like she's just rolling the top hand after contact, but she often has, for lack of a better description, that little loop at contact. Her batting instructor says he thinks that an effect of her hands moving too far away. Any feedback would be appreciated.

This hitter is a 'corner' away from being a better hitter.
I would watch this video:http://www.discussfastpitch.com/sof...-what-does-corner-mean-you-11.html#post240955
Once you watch this video you will understand why creating a corner will help this hitter. I see good 'barrel turn to the ball'. The only problem is it's beside this hitter not behind a corner. It would also help the hitter with getting a 'running' start. As I see it now hitter starts, stops and starts again.

Not sure if her instructor is teaching to get the front foot down that early, but it appears to be having a negative effect on her swing. Her weight goes forward with the stride, stops, and then a little rocker move (negative stride) to get swing going again. My guess would be she has trouble with any kind of speed? I would work on trying to get a fluidness to the swing. A rhythm. Load the hands and coil forward as she striiiiiiides - SWING!. She lacks that "suddenness" to the launch because of the lack of rhythm. I know alot of coaches like to teach getting that front foot down early, but I think it can sometimes have a negative effect in destroying rhythm.
Keep in mind this is just an opinion and I'm sure you will get lots of others.
It is a long journey to a high level swing (one we are still on) with lots of hard work. My advice- try to have as much fun as you can along the way!

If you look at the last couple of frames in the swing. The hitter knows how the bat should finish. I even see the forced over the shoulder, were the bat should have 'slapped' the hitter in the back.

So Cal
I'm seeing the DBSF pattern we see in so many young hitters. She doesn't drop the barrel completely flat behind her, but the flat whipping action out front, with the collapsed front elbow are tell-tale signs in this pattern. This is very close to where my DD was about 6 months ago.

The link to the "corner" thread that RDB provided is a very good place to start understanding the engines involved in a proper swing.

FFS gets the credit for posting it (kind of ironic, isn't it?). I only re-posted it for emphasis. For me, it fianlly clarified some of the things that I was still struggling to understand fully. Even more importantly, it gave me the understanding necessary to be able to translate the information to my DD in a way she could grasp. Seeing the lightbulb get switched on in her head is always one of my favorite moments.
