Tim the picture you posted looks like you made it with climbing rope.

Pigeon Mountain Industries (PMI) makes it locally and the breaking strength is unreal. That will be great to make them from if it is not too expensive.

How did you fasten the rope to the ball glue maybe?

I made one and always looking to make it better.

thank you, I'm definitely going to make one. for those of you that have made one I'd love to see pics and directions/part list?

Tim it looks as if you ran the robe through the bottom of an old bat handle? What types of balls are people using. A regulation softball or a softee ball of some sort?

Thats exactly what it is, repelling cord, stuff just dosent wear out. Take a baseball, drill a 5/8 hole thru the center, counter sink one side of the ball with a 1 or a 1and 1/4 in spade bit going about half way down thru the ball pull the rope thru the hole, take a 1/4 inch u clamp the kind that has a nut on each side, force the rope in the clamp and tighten it down, pull the clamp in the hole, fill it with 3 part epoxy resin let it harden then use a roll of electrical tape to cover the ball. Pull the other end of the rope back thru the handle until the length of your whip hit is at the sweet spot of your dd,s bat. another 1/4 inch clamp on the handle, wrap in electrical tape and walla you have about 15 bucks in a 75 dollar whip hit, and I guarantee you it will out last the real one.

Another good reason to make one your self is that the real version to my knowledge is only one size you can make one custom sized to your dd,s length.

Yes take an old softball bat and use a pipe cutter and cut it just where the barrel begins to taper. Make sure you smooth the barrel where you cut it so you dont frey the cord, pull enough rope thru to attach your ball. You can if you have the time fill the handle with resin also but that takes a bit more time. where the rope comes out of the handle, wrap that in tape also.

Surprising to me and an added benefit was my DD's boost in confidence after finding out that she could hit normal speed v. a pitching machine using a whip it bat.

Juggs makes the 12 inch lite balls, that pitch out of their machine, those work great for advanced kids using the whip hit trying to use a nickle worth of sweet spot on a ball moving about 55 mph

We use these with plastic play house balls. You can get 100 balls for $10 at Walmart. Just some Poly Rope, a piece of pipe insulation, and a wrap or 2 of Duct tape. Very cheap, very effective.

Ken that one pictured was about 11 inches. I would just go to where the barrel starts to taper and cut it there and leave room to put epoxy in the handle.
