I have heard varying comments about bat speed and timing, recently that timing was more relevant than bat speed.

What are some factors involving both,? high school age.

I don't understand your question- I'm thinking bat speed and timing are both required and not an either/or like the discussion re: bat speed vs bat weight

timing is whether or not you hit the ball.
Batspeed is how far it goes when you do hit it.

with a heavier bat you don't have to generate as much batspeed to generate power, but the obvious drawback is that you can't generate as much batspeed so you may not be able to catch up to fast pitches (timing)

Like 4 girls dad said.

Perfect timing plus slow bat speed = bunt
Maximum bat speed plus poor timing = whiff

Pretty simple IMO, the objective is to use the fastest bat speed that doesn't jeopardize good timing.

Question reminds me of a college buddy of mine. He used to go up to girls in the bars and ask "do you like pizza, or walk the dog?"

High school...longgggg but with good bat speed hurts timing. It really doesn't take a lot of bat speed with these bats to hit good line drives in the gap. It does take good bat speed to have good timing though. If you don't time it right, doesn't matter how fast your bat travels. I think I will have the pizza AND walk the dog.

I seem to remember blog posts saying that longgggg was better and you'll have great bat speed.
