If you are showing her posts, then have her look at this girl while in her stance.

See if she can comprehend the feel of the bat head ..... how the hands feel the bat head .... and allow her body to feel the bat head.

You never want to lose the feel of the bat head .... which is the object you are attempting to throw.

There was an example of some hitters giving a clinic and in it they all had their barrel in motion. Perhaps if RDBass reads this he would be so kind as to post the GIF.

Don't overlook the importance of rhythm in the lower body. It isn't static either.

Awesome RDBass!

Don't overlook the importance of what these ladies are doing. There is gold in practicing the arrival to the launch position ... as these ladies are doing. Learn to do it with a clean sequence ... with rhythm and flow ... with zero pauses and the feel of the body always in motion ... even if that motion at times might be very minor and largely under-the-surface.

Sequence and rhythm ...... very very important. Add the holy grail ... 'early and slow' and you'll be in a favorable position for enjoying this game.

And such is the issue with a static start and lack of rhythm ... virtually any weight bat of significance may feel as if is too heavy. The answer isn't to reduce bat weight for the purpose of arming the ball ... the answer is to learn how to 'swing' for the purpose of 'hitting'.

Honestly ... statements like this ... made on a hitter lacking rhythm ... run the risk of being incredibly off the mark and sending the hitter in an inappropriate direction.

In no way do I think that this is the answer to her problems. It is a good place to start. My daughter is 10yo and just because she can swing a 33/23 hard it doesn't mean that is the correct bat for her to swing.

It may or may not matter but, I'll say it any way. Lay a 33'' and 32'' bat side by side. The 'sweet spots' are the same. The only difference is the handle lengths. I'm not in a big 'hurry' to move my DD up to a 33'' bat.

Back on the dirt...

Depends on the bat, which I'm sure you know. We have a 2012 cf5 30 -11 and a 2013 cf5 30 -10 and the "sweet spot" of the longer bat is about an 1" or so shorter on the longer bat. You can tell when you hit with it. I'll post a pic later. I thought my dd needed a little more length and weight since she had used the 2012 for almost two years and has grown a lot but she hits the ball harder with the '12 vs the '13. I feel like its because the bat head is is smaller and less forgiving to miss hit balls.

Back to the topic, we have a lot of coaches that want to stop our players from making the pre-swing moves like these. I think the movement helps their timing. But I have very little proof of this.
Great topic!

What Arrival is saying is that shorter bats offer a player greater 'control'. Arrival is correct.

What I am suggesting is that it is difficult to tell what this hitter is capable of controlling with the lack of rhythm and flow.

This flow issue needs to be addressed. Drop down to a light enough bat and you'll end up placing a bandaide on the real issue.

Me ... I'd address the flow issue first, then make a determination if she's capable of controlling the bat.

Since I posted this video we have worked on the swing. The swing has made huge improvements. I would post a new video but she just injured a tendon in her knee and has to stay off of it for 2 weeks. Will post one then. By the way the bat is a 31L 19oz. and she is swinging great now. the issue was the position of the bat in her stance and her approach (hands) to the ball. With some work and visuals we are on are way in the right direction.

My 10 year old DD. In the video and can see that the hips don't drive the swing, the holds drop, bat drag. Any thing else? How do we fix this issues? We have been working for over a year and I keep stressing to her but there's no change. She loves softball and tries so hard, its frustrating for both of us.

Thanks

Throwing is where i would start. Stepping out on a flexed front knee and getting the back foot toes pointing to china.
That would tell you that a good weight shift happened.
I call it getting off the back side.

Pick a good swing model, do it in slow motion in front of a mirror. We call it the matrix. Have her see the weight shift and the back foot toes pointing straight down. You can also see the hips come around.
When doing it slow dont let the hands fly past the back hip.

Then do some throwing.
Then go to hitting and see if she ges off the back side.
Look at the picture of my daughter below. See how she released and the back foot is way off the ground. Try to achieve this from a standing/fielding position

You could also add in some reverse hand swings
