UPDATE - Review again please - DD's Swing - What to work on

We have been without a hitting coach for quite some time. DD is with a new 16/18u team, and the head coach/manager seems to be quite knowledgable...he's a retired executive, and he spends 6 days at the fields working with the girls or on recruiting. We are pretty impressed with the team, coaches and facilities. Anyway, I wanted to put a baseline video of her swing...we are currently on the waiting list for a really good coach in the area. We know she needs to do extra work, but we're not sure what drills she needs to work on to improve her swing. I have read a lot of posts, and I'll admit...it either goes over my head or my eyes glaze over. LOL. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the poor quality and angle...I couldn't get the video from inside the "cage" during their hitting practice. And this is soft toss so I'm not sure if that hinders anything...they did do front toss, but again, I couldn't get into position to get video.

Thanks!!

Hey Mak, love the open stance transitioning around a solid rear leg.

Hard to see from this video to make much suggestions. I have a feeling from it though that their aren't much for emergency fixes needed.
Good work to her! Thanks for sharing. Hope you get more.

Hey Maksoftball, Find out what the hitting coach you are going to see some day(cross your fingers) teaches, preaches.
Knowing that can save you time because if that coach doesn't agree with something you pick up on this board... well you will be wasting your time on certain things if you know what i mean. Let us know what you find out then folks here can start you in that direction while you wait.

RHC, could you elaborate on why? Easier to keep hands inside? THanks!

Moe, in my mind it's a good thing because it gives the lead leg something to do other than 'stride"...what is commonly called the stride should be controlled by the rear leg/hip and the coil there. So the goal of "transitioning around a rear solid leg" puts the focus on the right place.

RichK...ok. I might have DD try it to see if she is more comfortable...we are having stretch probs.

Also, it lets the batter have 2 eyes comfortably focused on the pitcher. No worries about the rear side eye not doing it job...

When you talk about transition from an Open stance around the stiff or firm rear leg, is it the way Jen Yee and Evan Longoria start? I had asked a question on BBD in the "Sequence" thread pertaining to Evan Longoria's swing and how I thought that might be a good way to teach my daughter to lead into Coil. I never got a response but I would be interested to know if you guys here feel and if I am right or wrong to believe this.
