We are acting like this is something new, and we are arguing about it. My son was doing the SnF drill and rear leg only swings 12 years ago with his hitting coach. This coach played in the Bigs for 11 years and was probably a better teacher than player all along.

At the time I understood the drills as building strength, hitting the ball deeper in the zone, and balance. As far as the bat head going rearward and all this hype about it, I have not seen a swing yet that does not resemble this pattern if they are loading the hands as they stride/coil forward. That separation and stretch is what really launches the bat into the zone with quickness and power, and the bat does arc rearward if they stay connected.

Mechanically there are other factors in the sequence of a well timed and executed swing. I think what your saying is correct, personally I think it is necessary also, but this is not new. I have been doing these drills for years, I do them especially for the younger hitters to build strength and to get them to feel the throw/whip.

I do learn tidbits here and there reading some of these threads, and more often I am reminded of something I use to know :)

Well, why so secretive then, if you knew.:p The "drill" is new to some(me).Maybe, the disagreement was the possible source of the information.

Yes, no one has said it is new, but take a trip through "model swings" on here and see how many girls are actually using it.

I said in the above post,

"I have not seen a swing yet that does not resemble this pattern if they are loading the hands as they stride/coil forward. That separation and stretch is what really launches the bat into the zone with quickness and power, and the bat does arc rearward if they stay connected."

I also said,

"I think what your saying is correct, personally I think it is necessary also"

Not being secretive, I think many others are accomplishing this with the way they are teaching.
