LOL - I guess if I asked you to instruct a newbie how to swing a hammer you would tell them to release the wrist late?

You guys keep missing the boat on this. If you have nothing in your hand and I ask you to make a hammering motion - do you just snap forward or does your wrist cock back first?

Does your forearm muscles work during this motion?

Now pick up a hammer or a bat and do the same thing? Do you feel your forearm muscles more now that their is the weight of the hammer/bat in your hand? Did you cock the wrist back quickly or did you just snap the wrist forward?

When you grip something - do your forearm muscles work? Would you naturally tighten your grip to swing a heavier hammer?

I am a 25 year union carpenter...I fully understand how to pound nails and when wrist release happens.

Do I need to come to CT and bring my framing hammer, sledge hammer, 2 pnd hammer, roofing hammer, drywall hammer, and trim hammer???

No, it's happening due to the start of her hip/lower body movement. The hips always start before the hands.

The barrel is being flicked rearward from the lower body movement? Stare at her top hand.

I have to agree with RayR on this, at least to a degree.

What Bustos is demonstrating is what most newbies do; she's sweeping the barrel/hammer around her hands.

Basically muscling up, which wears out your forearms very quickly.

What works much better, and what Bustos actually does, is she whip the barrel/hammer around her hands.

Basically, using physics to her advantage.

Not here.
My definition of bat drag is where the top hand is in a pull position. That is when you are truly dragging the bat IMO because both hands are in a pull position. CB's top hand is not in a pull position because her top hand is in front of her rear elbow. Therefore, she maintains lag until she torques the the bat with the wrists. I guess we can agree to disagree.

I will say however that she is exaggerating a point concerning bat lag. My guess is she is exaggerating the point to push forward the important point of a quick and powerful torque.[/QUOTE]

Never mind,I see you already answered the question.

A 'good' hitter does not maintain the 'lag position'. The 'lag position' is simply a position that is passed through.

The 'action' of 'bat lag' is not a 'position', but an action.

You can verify it yourself ... the notion of "maintaining the 'bat lag position'" defies the Hanson Principle. It is not how good hitters swing a bat.

Regarding this last part ...

An exaggeration? It's completely wrong. It defies the Hanson Principle.

What point is Busto exaggerating?

She has the sequence incorrect.

The notion of "maintaining a 'lag position'" is silly. A good hitter does not momentarily freeze the lag position in a 5-frame swing. A good 5-frame swing, which lasts 0.167 seconds, does not have time to momentarily maintain the 'lag position'.
