I agree she needs these changes, and we will work on it. I just get nervous changing the swing of a .500 hitter that struck out in 4 out of 148 plate appearances last year. I am hoping if we can fix these problems, it gives her more power. That is one of her goals in this game and why I posted this.

Man, i really know where you are coming from. I have this conversation daily. You're dd played 14u last year? Her bat path, is short, no big wrap or bat drag, with low strike outs and a good average, why change with the chance of wrecking whats there?
As our DD's get older, defense improves, pitching improves, so hitting should improve also. What worked oh so well at a younger age, not so much.

With the quest for power, one does, or should not, lose the ability to contact the ball.

One thing at time.

The bottom end, is fairly easy. coil foward, uncoil. stretch, seperation.

As you are looking and learning. Just some thoughts... A high level swing like crankermo's dd, my dd, and some others work toward is efficient (power per effort) but also superior in adjustability (speed and movement of pitches). Just keep learning, you don't have to rush to change. I will say my dd (only 13) struck out once in 2012 just over 180 at bats, and put 5 over the fence (only 12 yr old I have seen put any over). That was with her old swing, we are working hard on a change... I have seen video of 'mo's dd winning more then one hs varsity game for her team with balls blasted over the fence. FFS dd played D1. SL, Sbfam, Bouldersdad all have Dds successfully playing college ball.
So just soak it all up for awhile...

Rocker,

Never be afraid to make the NECESSARY changes in your DD's swing, it's the only way to keep moving up the ranks and excelling. My DD & I have been working on her swing since I first posted it on here when she was 13/14 I believe and we are still tweaking it to this day. You have to be willing to take a step back so you can take 2 forward. My DD's swing is light years better than the gif RHC put up of her, because she wants to play big time college ball and she isn't afraid of working and changing some things if needed, that's her biggest attribute IMO.

RHC,

Thanks for the kind words on my DD. She has worked extremely hard and it's paying off big. Sounds like you have a BEAST coming through the ranks, I LOVE IT.

I wish every parent and kid good luck on their journey. Don't be afraid of criticism and keep taping their work and posting it.

One more thing that I feel is extremely important;

GIVE YOUR DD THE FREEDOM TO STRIKE OUT. It may sound stupid but I know it made a huge difference in my DD's mentality. Don't just say it, live by it.

Totally agree with Gerry. Also, the hips aren't moving very much at all. She is assimilating weight transfer with a bending of the waist, getting her upper body too far forward, causing a strange initial bat angle which she tries to correct by bending her bottom hand wrist downward to get the barrel on plane. My dd often does the same thing. Weight transfer with hips, keep head quiet, and she will have the correct "tilt" for a good bat angle without bending the bottom hand wrist.

Hip bump...aka linear movement...
Getting your body weight transferred adds massive power to your contact. Her BA is incredible, but a hip bump will put more balls on the wall instead of in front of the fielders...

At 5'4, 110....if she hits the wall, we will both be thrilled. She is a fast learner so I hope to re-post soon. This is great stuff. Dad couldn't convince her that her stance was too wide so maybe now she will listen. The clip is short, as I cut off her separation of her hands early in her swing. That is one thing we got resolved last year. The hip "bump" is one I was missing. I have to keep telling her even though it feels uncomforatable now, it will be natural later.
