I'm relatively new to softball....well, i'm new. Why does Traina get in what looks like a stance to bunt only to move into a swinging stance when the pitcher is moving into her motion? Just curious.

Do you mean something like we see with Brittany Clifton below?

For some batters it helps them to time the pitcher.

When she is struggling a little my dd will go to this style, it forces her to think about what she is doing, and not so much on what she has done.

DD has being doing it since 10u. And to be 100% honest, it's something she developed on her own. At first I wasn't a fan of it, but it worked so well I couldn't say much about it. Oh coarse it wasn't as smooth at 10 as it was at 14 and now at 16 it's like second nature.

It's like a spring, when you lean forward the spring is at rest, torque ing back is like pulling the spring tight, and then pow " snaps " with power during the swing.

DD calls it Lean and load.

They asked her this during the WCWS and she said the reason she does that is to remind herself where she is trying to make contact at because she has a tendancy to over swing at pitches and get into a hitting "slump".

Last night's game Traina did that and the bat somewhat blocked the OU catchers view of the pitch. The two runners on base moved up on a passed ball. I don't think it was planned but it worked well.

My dd does a mini version of it. I like it because she is moving. I see a lot of young girls that look stiff and make no movement unless they are commiting to a full swing. I think it is easier to swing at every pitch if you are already moving (stopping on the wrong pitch of course). It is a personal style thing.

Pretty decent description of body coil.

My DD has started working on it. We call it hitting from the Stump position. She can hit or bunt from here. It really confuses defense at 10U. I like it b/c she is now hitting and it keeps her on plain when she coils back to come forward. Also, she is not over thinking things regarding the pitch or pitcher but rather focused on form and swinging at the ball. It seems to be working so far. It was her idea from watching college ball.
