My DD has started working on it. We call it hitting from the Stump position. She can hit or bunt from here. It really confuses defense at 10U. I like it b/c she is now hitting and it keeps her on plain when she coils back to come forward. Also, she is not over thinking things regarding the pitch or pitcher but rather focused on form and swinging at the ball. It seems to be working so far. It was her idea from watching college ball.

Interesting point about focusing on her motion, not the pitcher. Great side effect.

DD's hitting coach recommends it to girls that are too anxious or nervous when going up to bat. He said it just becomes part of the routine and helps with nerves while waiting for the pitch.

I actually got my DD to start going through a similar motion this season. It shortened her swing (bat ends up by her back shoulder instead of by her ear). The shorten swing robber her of some power, but cut down on her strikeouts and allowed her to hit more line drives. A lot of batters who hold their hands by their head have a 'dip' in their swing which causes a lot of pop ups.
