The reason there's tilt is because she is leading with her back elbow and not with her hips.

Tilt is a good thing.

It's how good hitters adjust up and down in the strike zone.

The whole idea of level shoulders and the level swing is bogus because how then do you adjust up and down in the strike zone?

No, I didn't play ball growing up. Just started to get into the game a few years back. The clip of DD hitting is the oldest, she's been playing about 4 years. Shes a good fielder but not the best hitter. The youngest DD is a pitcher and I have really started to get more into the game this past year. After finding this board and reading about hitting its clear the oldest has been taught things that are incorrect. I am trying to work on them with her and she is just now starting to understand the mechanics of a good swing. So glad I found this board. Thanks everyone.

You'll definately get a lot of good stuff on this board, but you will also get some bad stuff. And I dont mean that as a knock at this board, that is with any internet board. However, As someone who has been where you are now, and I am still learning the mechanics of a good swing, the best advice I can give you at this very point in time is to get edcuated before asking for too much advice. How will you know what to pass on to your daughter and what not to? How will you know if she is doing it correctly even when you have been told what to do? Trust me on this. You can't just haphazardly have your daughters doing a bunch of drills or what not if you don't know what you're trying to accomplish and why.

If I were you I would research the materials out there from the established rotational hitting gurus and purchase one. Some very good material would be stuff from Mike Epstein Rotational Hitting, Steve Englishbey Hitting, Chris O'Leary, Dr. Chris Yeager, Jack Mankins Batspeed, Right View Pro, John Mallee, Hitting Illustrated.

Step Two. Study Study Study. Know your source material inside and out before starting to work with your child. I know the temptation to get right at it and start doing something, anything, is huge. But trust me on this. I nearly ruined my kids swing and confidence by doing this. Your kids will learn quicker if you take the time to learn yourself and become at least competant in what your seeing and teaching, which leads me to step 3.

Step Three. Get some motion capture software, preferrably something that will allow you to compare side by side with elite hitters, frame by frame. I use RVP myself, but there are cheaper even free programs out there. This one simple item alone has helped immensely in getting my daughter to see things she does wrong and how to correct it. Always Always compare everything your doing to elite hitters. After all they have "made the show" so we want our kids to try and do what they do.

Thats just my .02.

It's almost impossible to address everything in a post. That is one reason why it's hard to post and comment on swings.

As mentioned, your ability to understand and see what is already mentioned is the most important factor. There isn't to many resources that address what is seen in the swing. They don't cover potential flaws, they only describe mechanics as they see them.

As far as understanding tilt, swing planes, etc.,. there isn't much on DVD's that explain it well. There has been more on the internet in posts that have talked about this down to the smallest detail.

It would be more beneficial to someone new, if there was threads designated to specific topics by individuals. If we took the time the time to post information that could be accessed more easily besides searching through a mountain of information (DVD's, past posts, etc.), it would be better for people just starting out.

There are several things happening that can be discussed. I agree with just about everything mentioned.

One thing not directly mentioned yet is the actions called loading and the corresponding unloading. While everything should work smoothly together as one thing, there isn't a clear example of this happening in a coordinated sequence. To many things happening all at once. I believe several posts have already addressed this indirectly.

I'll try to put a few things together today. And get back to some of the questions asked.

Greg,

I didn't look at the first clips, only the second one. After looking at the first swings, many of the questions on loading and timing seem to be related to the pitching machine. In which case it's going to be a hit or mis situation if the pitching machine cannot be timed well.

The second clip posted and embedded in the thread was butchered badly. After taking out all the extra frames, it gave a better picture of the swing at full speed.

The reason I asked if you played ball was to determine if you have a good feel for the overhand throw. Demonstrating the correct overhand throw sequence to your daughter would be one way to help her understand the coil-stretch-separate sequence necessary for a good swing.

Check out this video from Don Slaught. Good luck.
