My DD is currently using an Easton Mystique aluminum bat (31/-11.5). Her current bat has a BPF of 1.20. We were planning on purchasing an Easton Synge composite bat when she moved up to a 32 inch bat this winter. The Easton Synge also has a BPF of 1.20. From what I've read, all fastpitch bats are limited to a BPF of 1.20. If the BPF is the same, can a bat be "hotter"? I don't mind spending the extra money for the Synge, but would like to know I'm actually getting something extra for it. Unfortunately, no one on her fall ball team is using a Synge so she can't try one out in batting practice. Thanks for any insight you can give on this.

Yes. You are getting something for your money. You are going from an entry level $90.00 bat, to a double wall travel ball bat. There is no comparing these 2 bats. One is to learn the game and how to hit, and the other is to perfect your swing and get the trampoline effect off of your bat.

Plus, I love the graphics. I would have one myself, but I am avoiding composite bats until I am certain that HS won't ban them over night, like they did in baseball.

DD started using the Synge (30/-11.5) two months ago and there is no question that she is hitting the ball harder and farther with this composite bat. Previously she was using a $35 aluminum Easton (29/-9) with less success. I wasn't convinced that compostie made that much difference until I saw the results with her hitting, I am now a believer. IMO the Synge is a good "entry level" composite bat, she won't be disappointed. These girls work so hard to be good players, why put them on the field with inferior equipment, whether its gloves, cleats, bats..

Apparently they are OK or the Fed. would have announced it at the same time they did baseball. (Wouldn't they?) Many HS baseball coaches are not aware that their expensive bats are illegal. The manufacturers sure aren't telling them.

But, I do know parents that are only buying Anderson bats, because they expect them to remain legal, no matter what.

All of it is a guess.

Thanks, Amy. My DD LOVES her Easton Mystique, and has informed us she will only use Easton bats. She's a contact hitter, and the Mystique has amazing balance to it. The Synge is supposed to be the composite equivalent of the Mystique (-11.5 drop weight, low M.O.I., etc.), which is why I'm considering buying that when she moves up to a 32". Hopefully it won't be outlawed before she gets to high school (she's currently 12 YOA).

we just got the DD a Easton V12 that i bought off ebay, i tell you that thing has some pop, and it fells so well balanced...composite bats are great until the next latest greatest thing comes out....HS coaches here in central Texas are already telling the girls that if they are going to invest in a bat wait till December, supposedly rule changes for UIL dont go through till than

Take a look at the 2011 Rawlings Plasma. My daughter used the Plasma in HS and I recommended it to one of my students, that bought the orange one for $40.00.

The new one has great graphics and is about $104.00. This bat lists at -11, or so, but is slightly end loaded. I recommend it to anyone that wants to avoid a composite and still swing a great bat. They come really short, too.
