If you had a jugs combination machine in your backyard cage, which you used for DD to practice recognizing and hitting curves, screwballs, riseballs, drops, etc.

Would you throw softballs for practice with it, or the smaller baseballs?

Maybe 11" softballs - not baseballs. Baseballs would likely damage your bats and may even attract boys around your DD. I use 11" softballs primarily because I purchased the machine while DD was 8 or 9 and I'm too cheap to by 4 dozen 12" jugs balls. By the way I rarely use anymore (will use for catcher drills and fly balls when my back is hurting). I finally taught myself to throw a breaking pitch - can throw just about anything but a rise.
