2.6 is considered to be pretty fast at any age and that would be measured from contact to first base. That number will vary greatly based on the age group the player is in.

Pure speed is not the primary factor when it comes to developing a slapper.

3 seconds is pretty good, less than 3 seconds is incredible. 2.6 seconds, Mike Candrea will come to your house. Really depends on the age. it's going to be alot different from 12u to 18u (obviously).

My DD is 8, wil turn 9 end of August, she is a slapper and makes it to first around 3.8. But for her age that seems to be pretty good, she gets on base a ton.

During the world cup, I timed both Lowe and Watley at 2.6. Not sure what good tomes would be for say 10U. I've never actually put a stopwatch on my team, but am thinking about trying it next practice. Maybe a front toss bunt, and contact to base time. I'll let u know how my 10U girls do. We have some serious speed.

it depends on who and how the timing is done. DD has been anywhere from 2.82 ( at two college camps ) to 3.3 . All you have to do is go to the NFCA and look up the times at the camps. Very few under 3.0, but if you look at profile sheets many under 3.00 along with all the pitchers over 60 mph. They all must vanish when the college have these camps.
3.17 at paramount showcase , which was from contact with ball. Fastest time I found at this camp measuring this way was 3.15.

Dang I wish I had been able to go to camps like that :)

Anyway - I think 3.0 or under from CONTACT is pretty quick.

Coach JV that is probably very good. Like I said my dd was timed 2.84 from home to first Running and has been under 2.80 from first to second because they don't start the clock till the back foot releases and with a rolling start you are faster. . At contact she had the second fastest time recorded at Paramount with a 3.17 as a lefty slapper. Our second fastest runner on our 15U team was 3.30 at contact as a right hand hitter. Starting from the left side is a big advantage.
I have got to watch and talk to some of the fastest softball players on team USA and dd got to work talk with some of them. The difference in workouts and what they do to get that speed is interesting. The were not all born with it.
