Here is her live swing. I appreciate feedback but I should clarify that I don’t know much in the way of technical swings. If there are drills or videos that explain what you think needs work that would be helpful.

I will say - she sees the ball well and rarely strikes out. She plays 14A on an 05 team. She finished the fall with a BA of .511, OBP of .593, an OPB of 1.304, & SLG .711. Her team just had an indoor tournament at Missouri Western with space for full size fields and she batted .741 in 4 games with a HR and 6 RBI’s. She is starting to think more about playing at the next level and wants to improve, which is why we would love some videos or drills if possible.

TIA

That is a better swing then the tee swing.

Here another from behind.

I will say - she was being a typical attitude filled teenager with her Mom on the tee swing. We have been trying to post more on Twitter and obviously that is not a good one to post, lol. I will make sure she knows that her swing was sloppy and she needs to cut out the attitude!

It is common for tee swings and live ball swings to be different, although (at the younger ages at least) it is more typical for the tee swing to be better than the live ball swing (at least
in my experience). Of course if the hitter is giving attitude all bets are off ;). Is the guy throwing BP not behind a pitching screen???

In terms of her swing, she seems to be bleeding any coil she gets on her negative move as she moves out (e.g. strides). Try to have her to continue pulling back (e.g. trying to elbow somebody behind her) with her upper back as she moves out.

One of the various versions of the stretch-and-fire drills may be good for her to get the feel of launching the barrel from a position where she is loaded/coiled/stretched. This is one version of that drill (another version has the hitter facing the pitcher to start):

Thanks so much for the video and explanation - I will have her watch this and work on it today while she is off since we plan on hitting tonight.

The guy pitching to her is not behind a screen - he actually is a mens fastpitch pitcher himself and one of her coaches. He pitches full speed to the girls which I absolutely love. He is crazy good and can pitch upwards of 70+ to the older teams in our org so he is in high demand. He is usually pretty good at deflecting balls or moving out of the way, although he has been pegged a few times in the lower legs but he always shakes it off somehow :D

Love the pitcher's simple "up together, down together action".

Bet he could throw BP for hours pitching like that and not be tired.

That is how I throw to my DD except my flexibility is lousy so I have hard time getting to 12 O'clock..lol

Even when your dd hits bombs over a 220 fence, you should never settle . I noticed my dd's front foot was not what we practiced. Had she had better lower body footwork, we might have had more over the fence. She only put three over that night

I agree and tell my DD this all the time - that is why we continue to work and I would love any and all help in helping her. Due to some personal $$ issues my DH has been her primary hitting coach but he has become more busy with work so it is up to me to work with her more. We may move to a paid hitting coach again soon but right now if she will remain cooperative (most of the time....) I prefer to work with her so we can use the money we save on other costs that we have so any and all drills to help me help her would be great.

Thanks!!

Pattar,
Related follow up question in regard to losing the coil early/ not using legs. Be gentle here and correct me but I have noticed that this problem also shows itself in the form of swinging around the front leg and struggle with the outside pitch? I see that type of swing a LOT and none of them have a good backside swing to get behind the ball.

In many ways keeping the coil on the stride and hitting the outside pitch with power have some correlation when trying to teach my kids how important using the legs are to the swing.

Spend the money on a quality hitting coach. Its worth it. 25-40 bucks a lessons is about average. Focus on line drives. Homeruns are bonuses. Below is another video we did for strength training. Pretty lame but was effective. Dont be afraid to try new and out of the box techniques .
