Guys,

Looking for advice on how to teach my daughter to stay calm when hitting off of actual pitching. You know when hitting off a tee, she's calm and collected. He body control for the most part stays together. She obviously doesn't have ball movement to worry about, but as soon as there is a moving ball involved say front toss that calm and collectedness (is that word) goes out the window. batting becomes a very much overly anticipating and reacting movement. This causes the good mechanics she has on the tee to go away and starts to perform really bad mechanics. Thanks for any advice. I find this one of the hardest things to correct at least for my daughter. She is 8 by the way.

Practice?

Maybe slow down on tee work were ball is in static position and do front toss more, the 2 should come together.

Yeah I figured practice. I definitely thought of just doing front toss for a while and no tee work. Is there any specific verbal que's that you suggest other than "Calm down" lol!

More live hitting at practice and less saying 'calm down'. Bringing attention to it just adds to the stress.

If you don't have the pitching to run live scrimmages and live hitting in practice, go borrow it from an older team or see if any of the local HS pitchers want some service hours or $20 or something similar to come pitch.

Slow her feet down. This will smooth her out. Front toss with ‘slow feet’. Haven’t seen video. But this the cue I use with a student.

If you get bored it is easy to try to trick them, easy to do.

Throw her perfect pitches until you are happy with her swing then slowly start moving it around.

Like, Slow and early? As start early to give yourself enough time.

You can say that. But I will give a cue to a student and have them work ‘within’ it as a fundamental. So if the command is ‘slow feet’, the student will then figure out the timing of the pitch. I want the cue to stick.

Basically let her figure out her ‘rhythm’ within the fundamental. If she’s not a naturally slower ‘rhythmic’ hitter it will screw her up. For example, Miggy would be a slower rhythmic hitter. Chase Utley would be quicker rhythmic hitter. If they changed it might be detrimental to their natural flow.

I think I remember your DDs swing. It’s good.

Right now I have a hitter on my team who gathers to early and interrupts her natural flow. Good athlete, bad rhythm.

Sorry if this post is everywhere. I’m doing 3 things at once and interrupting my natural rhythm. Lol.
