Dink hits for singles, or dink hits for outs?

There is a difference.

Can you explain the difference? Other than the obvious.

My opinion as a coach or dad is, a dink is a dink. Whether it's an out or single. That's not what we're striving for.

Square the ball up and i'm happy, whether it's an out or single.

Long term results, over short term success.

The difference is quite obvious. One often generates runs, the alternative puts you back on defense.

Sometimes, you're just not hitting the ball well, but if it's falling for a single or an ROE, that is far more preferable than a line drive out.

Ball teams, especially HS ones, are striving for runs and wins. Accept the gifts and work on improving contact. They'll be plenty of other much better hits where a good defensive play "robs" you.

Thanks again for the good information fellas. Unfortunately, been raining down here for the last few days. Fortunately, that has put us inside where all we can really do it hit. Been working hard on the tee and soft-toss and then to the cage for front toss (live pitching). As I originally thought, most of it was defensive swings and mental issues. A few were mechanics. We've had some good discussions about their mental approach at the plate and it seems to improving. Still a work in progress, but that is always at this level. Thanks again!

You should really talk to Big Al. My favorite little dude saying in a long time. I can watch it over and over and still makes me smile:eek:

This could be caused by not having a "every pitch is a strike mentality". Treat very pitch as a strike so that the batter is on time to deliver the best swing possible. Probably not the best strategy, but what if you told every kid on your team for the 1st at bat next game to go up to the plate and swing hard at the first pitch the see regardless if it's a ball or strike. Wondering if that swing would be similar to their practice swings. If so, you know what the problem is.

When my DD has dink hits it's because she swings to early and slows the bat to contact. Often leading to hits off the end cap or tip of bat. Could be a timing issue. When DD swings with good timing the ball is gone!

My daughter had this problem...hits to the fence when just practicing but the dink hits in games. I recorded her hitting in games and what we found was she was wanting to run to first to early and not finishing her swing. Told her to make sure she "sticks" the front leg and her next game she got her first homerun over the fence in her very last game of 12's.
