So my DD has typically had a no stride swing for the past 5 years. She tried striding yesterday and really liked it. I like it better because I believe she gets better separation, increased power etc. She had a game last evening and struggled at the plate.. her timing was way off. She was getting started slow and early, which I liked, but she was either way ahead or behind... so I didn't see a lot of good swings like I did off the tee or soft toss. I guess she has to get use to it... but I am just looking for some advice to pass on to her

I am going to channel my inner anti Allen Iverson and say "Practice!! We are talking about Practice!!" More front toss with the stride and less tee work. She will figure it out in the dirt (now I am channeling my inner Ben Hogan.. )

When you practice front toss and tee give your DD the thought of 'swing to stride' instead of stride then swing. It will help with timing . Some kids will break it up into a 2 part swing. Stride then swing which can/will effect timing .

Not sure I understand the concept ... it seems backwards to me when I try to picture it?

Words are amazing. So it would be thought of don't stride to stride . Stride to swing. This can help it become a timing component instead of part 1 of 2. In other words swing to stride. The stride should help with timing not hinder timing. Does it make more sense now?

Basically she needs to get to the point where she isn't thinking about the stride at all, e.g. it just happens as part of the swing. I always had a stride, not a big one but had one nonetheless, and to be truthful I never really thought about it. For someone, especially a younger hitter, who is just starting to incorporate a stride this will be part of the process. Once she works with it for a while it will become a natural part of the swing, which seems to be sort of what you are talking about.

Thanks for the life jacket. I was kinda drowning there. Yes.

As soon as my 8 YO DD started facing live pitching she went from a regular stride to a bit of a leg kick. Not
sure why she did it but she did and she has spent the whole summer trying to figure out the proper timing with it.
I have been pretty patient with it, and she has hit decent even with the struggles, although I would have rather she just stayed with her regular stride. Kids..
