I relocated this post as it was supposed to go here in the first place.

U18 team and some of the players have a recurring issue with wrist roll. i know I've heard of some but can't remember what the best drills are for this. Reverse top hand? one handed swings bottom hand only?
thanks

Without video ... I'll make a guess and suggest that the issue is not one of wrist roll.

A large percentage of those that have complained about such an issue were resolved simply by learning how to use the lead arm within a healthy torso/hip main engine.

Couple back to basic and simple technique to prevent the wrist rolls:

1) is to work the girls on getting deeper extension. Not just extension 1, but start to look to get extension 2. (2 levels of extension). I have seen many girls get out early or take a swing at a high pitch and just roll over. The extra extension of finishing deeper will help prevent many wrist roll breakdowns.

2) Another idea is to remind girls to finish their top hand out towards the pitcher. May sound like an extension tip, but a top hand finish that ends up towards the Pitcher (or CF as some call it) prevents the hips to open up early and the arm and wrist roll to follow.

3) Lastly - just a tip I heard years ago from one of the best batting instructors in my area (Chicago) - he likes for girls to have their top hand at contact to have a slightly stronger grip than the bottom hand. He believes this helps keep in deeper on a swing. Its NOT a strong heavy grip, but a slightly tighter grip on the top hand.

Good Luck !

Show me a swing with proper lead arm usage along with a proper torso/hip-engine that has the wrists rolling improperly. I'll wait patiently ..... but don't expect to see a video.

Try to do a few drills,

1) A short follow though , hold the follow through
2) Work on extending and then extending again, so you exaggerate the extension
3) Work on hitting the ball and then hitting another ball (imagine another one after contact). This is the best drill for wrist roll.

Here's the rub Shawn ... 100% of the people that have come to me with an issue of premature wrist rollover did NOT have a problem the wrists rolling over prematurely.

Let's see these issues of people with premature wrist rollover .... chances are good that the issue is something different than premature wrist rollover.

But hey ... recommend a short follow through and hold the follow through ... pretty much sounds like you are recommending not allowing pronation of the top hand/forearm into extension ... which is a bad idea.

Then again, recommend extending and then extending again ... pretty much the same thing ... which not tell the kid to PUSH palm-up to extension?

You studied Yeager ... you should know this area of the swing better.

Yeager is a quack and if you believe he is right or his observations are even close to being correct then we don't see eye to eye on the swing.

Edgar could square the ball up because he didn't roll the wrists and didn't try to snap them at contact. He maintained parallel (barrel ) contact. In this inside/high pitch which he hit into the 3rd deck, you can see him maintain or extend and extend again.
