1 Load held back as you move out is good...not bad! Yes, who said it was bad?... was trying to get a little more separation, that's why we tried the stride approach.. personally I find it much easier to create separation with a stride vs no stride and I find it easier for a kid to understand walking away from their hands with a stride.
2 None of what you describe is a problem You don't think it's a problem that she comes out her swing by standing taller at contact?
3 Her problem is she has way to much top hand palm up.Can you please explain in greater detail? I thought palm up was a good thing
4 This is causing her to roll over hard Can you please explain in greater detail? What is causing her to roll over hard
5 Stride or no stride...who cares She does, she's more comfortable with no stride, but at the end of the day she will do whatever it takes to improve
6 You don't load your handsHow should she load her hands
7 The hip coil will almost automatically load the handsCan you please explain in greater detail?
8 This dad is so far off ..what he needs to do is find an instructor to help him with HIS understanding Make no doubt about it, I'm flying by the seat of my pants, as most of us are on here. There are no good instructors in my area and TBH I can't afford it. Tonight the coach is bringing an instructor to the hitting practice. Unfortunately she teaches knob to the ball, shortest path, chopping down type swing. This is not the type of swing I want my DD to learn
9 What you say is tall I see as a decent natural tilt. Please explain, I know what you mean by tilt.. but do you have example of a MLB player or successful fastpitch hitter that stands taller at contact?
10 Address the top hand shes probabaly over-gripping it.
I wouldn't doubt that at all... but could you please provide more details on on "too much palm up" is the issue?

Julray,

What have you guys tried, to keep her from shifting the weight across her pelvis onto the front leg? I don’t know if you believe that is her problem but she is a shifter. My DD has the same issue, she likes to shift onto her front leg instead of staying behind it. One thing that I find helps my DD is the command drill.

In regards to shifting.. I just don't know anymore. I see people saying that one legged is the way to go, I see others saying two legged. I see examples of both that are successful. But for the most part I see two legged in fastpitch and a lot of girls having success with this. I don't mind her getting some weight on the front leg, more concerned about keeping a stiff front side which I think she does a decent job. However maybe she's shifting too much. Heard of the command drill, seen it done before, but never tried with her.

Why is that bad?

Because your body should advance forward as well, it's the only way to get that stretch which is desired. Simply sticking your leg out while keeping your hands back does not create the stretch you are looking for

I wouldn’t worry about all of the one legged, two legged talk...... IMHO she is definitely over cooking the weight shift which is/may cause her some adjustability.

And you believe that this is causing her back foot to advance too far forward leading to her standing taller at contact?

I was thinking of something else when you said command drill ... but now I think I know what you mean. I just started using it with her. We set up two tees. One on the outside and deeper on the plater, and the 2nd on the inside and forward on the plate. She starts her load and at heel plant I say inside or outside. She enjoys that drill and so do I.. I think it's very useful for many aspects (prevents casting as well). I've also seen it done with front toss and a tee.

Yes, the body now has to work around the front hip so everything gets pulled forward, IMO.

It happens more on inside pitches.. so that makes sense. More to work around on an inside pitch. Thanks
