I’m trying to get a better understanding of some concepts like turning the barrel, and coiling around the rear hip, etc.

I understand that her swing isn’t good but I’m needing help pinpointing some things. Is there anything in these two videos that’s is right/good? That will help me know what to keep and where to start from and then hopefully I’ll know where to start making changes.

What stands out that’s good? What stands out that’s bad? Please be as specific as you can- the light bulb honestly hasn’t gone off yet, with her swing, for me.

Looks like she’s dropping her bat head to swing, leading to a flatter swing plane (search DBSF - drop barrel, swing flat).

I like her initial coil with her front foot, but as soon as she steps out, she loses her coil. You can try it yourself - take a stance like your daughters that has you showing your front heel to the pitcher, and notice the tension in your inner thighs.

Now take a slight step, but open your foot right before you land, and you should feel the tension disappear. Reset you stance, and take the same step, but keep that front heel facing the pitcher at toe touch. You should be still feeling that tension. NOW let the heel drop, and you’ll hopefully feel it act as a trigger that starts pulling your back leg around to start the swing.

The coil is a major source of power in the swing. You don’t HAVE to turn the heel like that to help you coil, but I think that could be an easy change to work in since your daughter already starts like that.

If you (and your daughter) are not already familiar with his swing, look through the multiple DFP threads on Albert Pujols, who often used a similar foot action on his way to 3,000 hits.

As another positive, it also looks like she uses her front foot as a timing mechanism. The fact that there’s ANY attempt to time the pitch, and not just “see pitch, THEN decide to swing”, puts her ahead of many of her peers.

What is the thoughts on TTB? She is currently letting the hinge angle go in the beginning of the swing, so will TTB help or hurt? Or is this just a case of not knowing how to TTB?

I’m not sure I understand TTB enough to know one way or the other (whether she was doing it a little bit or even for sure if it’s helpful). That’s one reason I am looking for critique.

I could be misinterpreting it, but I always view TTB as a swivel motion - using the hands or wrists to rotate the barrel (think Nike swoosh) into the path of the ball.

OsDad,

I see the launch position at toe touch, the hands are to high and the back arm (forearm) is too vertical. The back forearm should be parallel to the ground in the launch position or vertical if it starts there and stays vertical. The hands however shouldn't be above the back shoulder, I have seen hitters with higher hands, although I would say 95% of the greats are at/below shoulder height.

OsDad,

There really isn't any meaningful turning of the barrel, there is only looping/casting happening. To much slop in the system, get level swing level. TTB needs to be shorter quicker turning "as" you swing "forward". She is turning the barrel and 'then" swinging forward.

To much slack, bat drag.
