It can seem like a negative in that it's generally used for players/teams that lack pure natural ability. With that said it's always meant as a compliment. Someone is saying your kid give it her all and will do what it takes to win.

This. I was told my whole team was scrappy last weekend. It never occurred to me that it was anything other than a compliment.

I’m most likely partial. But if We had a whole team that played like my “scrappy” girl I would be pumped. I bet your team is fun to watch

It came out as more of a surprise... I mean, I’m her mom who has watched her play enough & so I know what she can do. It made me laugh to hear the surprise in the “compliment”. But I guess it’s a good thing? Catch them off guard. She is a competitor!

^^^^^^^^This^^^^^^^^^^^^ I would take it as a compliment! As a coach, I love scrappy players. I was once "scrappy."

I don’t know baseball enough. Took this as a “cheat to win” mentality. My husband corrected me
