At the youth/beginner level, I see the opposite issue - front elbow staying down by the belly button - symptom/cause/effect of the all-too-common DBSF swing.

Yep. I've seen lots of that, too. The upper part of the front arm pinned to the torso is a swing-killer.

Descriptions I like for the elbows...
"Front elbow works up to the level of the pitch"
"Rear elbow works down and under the hands...but not in front of the hands"

The reason it looks "level" with the shoulders or below is because of shoulder angles. They're all working up. Pitch location is huge as well when looking at swings.

I have to ask, when you refer to the elbow working up, I am assuming you mean in space and not from the shoulder working the elbow up?

This is what I mean when I say "working up". When you say "elbow down" IMO you're telling a kid to swing down. I don't use cues like these with my DDs and they've never taken lessons from instructors because of cues like this. BUT when someone talks about cues like "keep the elbow down" it makes me wonder what the thought process is. So in space or outer space, I won't comment on that because I don't use it with my DDs.

So you talk about “working up” and support it with a gif of Manny Ramirez that shows his front elbow moving along a line level with the ground. Got it. Even IF you were able to convince me that it was moving upward, this gif still supports that his elbow is lower than his shoulder and not flying up and out prematurely. I’m not suggesting that the front elbow should stay pinned to the ribs. That would be stupid. I’m simply suggesting that it stay down below shoulder level while extending the arms.

There’s a reason my DD’s BA is .562 and BA/RISP is .750 this season.

We study the best in my house. All I'm saying is cues can be hurtful to a swing. I'm glad your DD is hitting amazing. Guess I should add DDs stats?
DD1.. .525 12 HR, 5 2bs, 1 3b, and yeah that was in the fall. 2 PGF tourneys
DD2.. .760 2HR, 2bs? 3bsI don't know don't care. She's 12 playing 14u again vs "the best" so I guess we're ok. If I offended you in any way, my bad

I guess I don't see a front elbow "level" to the ground.

Wow, everybody's DD is rocking it in this thread. Only time I ever hit .500 was when I would play games of self-toss by myself ;)
