I have another question for those of you who have transitioned from having a middle schooler to a high schooler. My daughter is short 5’2” weighs in at roughly 110. She is strong for her size and is hitting the ball great with her 31/21. We just purchased some 32/22 bats (ghost, old synergy and a cf6) and she seems to be fine off of the tee and front toss. However she hasn’t had any solid hits off of our live pitching practice. I feel like she needs more weight, but maybe it was a mistake to go longer? I’m looking for a 31 -9 and not finding a lot of options. Is that not a good combo? Should we keep practicing with the 32 -10? In front toss she is clobbering the ball. I’m just worried about the live pitching. Games start next week & I want to make sure she is confident going into the game.

I can't speak a lot to specific sizes, but what is she doing in live batting? I've been working with my DD for several years now and have always paid close attention to different things she did with different bats. One of the big cues for too heavy was lots of pop ups and hits to the opposing field. The weight was pulling the barrel down further than she was used to. A little time building up the forearm strength and she was able to start swinging it better. Then, with a bat too light, we'd often see the exact opposite. All the hits were on top of the ball because the weight she was used to wasn't pulling the barrel down far enough and she'd often be ahead of it. Just my own experience with my DD.

She has been hitting hard grounders. But, it has only been a few at bats. With her smaller bat she was driving them all foul on the left side. I think she may just need to get comfortable and it’s the beginning of the season. I just see girls bigger than her swinging smaller bats and it makes me doubt...

My DD is about the same weight but 3” taller and swings a 33/23 Xeno and has for a few years now. She’s always preferred heavier bats and since it works for her we’ve just went with it. I would keep trying the 32/22 size and see how it goes

That sounds a lot like my daughter, though we might not be quite to 5'2" yet, but within an inch. She's going to stick with the 31" at least through the school ball season.

Yep! We did some live pitching again today. 2 hard grounders with the 32” and a high line drive triple with her 31”. We are going to stay with the 31 for now. But she will still practice with the bigger bat. I’m sure some on here would say that isn’t wise, but today was the first time she has picked the little guy up in 4 weeks & she drilled the ball with it. So it won’t ruin her to use different bats. (Hopefully) thanks for your input!

You answered your own question: "is hitting the ball great with her 31/21"

I'd say for her height of 5'2", 31" is an ideal length. And -10 is a perfectly reasonable drop.

I didn't consider moving up to 32 until my DD was 5'4"+

My dd is 15 y/o 5'2" 115 lbs and has been swinging a 32" bat since 12 y/o without a problem. First -11 then -10 and now -9. I am considering buying a 33 -10 as well. Better plate coverage
