Left (gather), Right (launch). HL hitters don't "launch" until the ball has left the pitcher's hand but their gather starts before that.
The timing of the start of the gather is going to be similar for all pitches (it has to be unless pitcher is tipping their pitches) and needs to be before ball is released. Are you disagreeing with any of that? If not then we are on the same page....

I'm not disagreeing with at all. The gather or pre-load as I like to call it has to happen before pitch release. However, the launch of the swing has to be timed upon the ball speed.

Not as much of a "hand pump" as Bonds but Hugo does have one. I do agree it is a style thing and not an absolute.

And that was what I was trying to say with breaking down the sequence before the pitch. "Walk away" from the hands as they go higher. We're on the same page, just describing it a little differently.

DD faced some really fast pitchers this weekend. Finally got her first TB hit! It was up the middle but hit pretty hard.
We took her to the field this afternoon and threw her some front toss. DH pitched so it wasn’t super fast but she hit some really hard line drives. We were on a smaller field but she finally hit one over the fence and hit the fence a number of times too. If she gets thrown a change up she might be able to get a decent hit ;) I should have filmed but I was shagging balls.

Just need to work on faster pitches!

Congrats to your DD on the hit!! How close was your DH when he was throwing front toss? At 15 feet or so he should be able to throw it at a speed which gives a good representation of the reaction time your DD will see in the game. That said, I wouldn't throw that close without a pitching screen. You can get a decent one for under $100.

Good to see you taking her to a field to hit. IMO nothing beats hitting on a field!!

Played in her 3rd tournament this weekend..and went 5-10 (some went to right but had a good line drive up the middle - but to the left side). Had two rec games the Thurs and Fri before the tournament and was 3-4 then as well. Had a really nice line drive to left field though she doesn't feel it was that great since it was against a slower rec pitcher. It was a "double" but she chanced running to 3rd and made it.
Hoping this helps her confidence.

OP here -
DD hit a good one (thinking it would have been caught in TB but rec plays 4 in the OF so it would depend on where they were playing) in her rec EOS tournament this past weekend. This is one of the faster pitchers in our rec league who most players find really tough to hit off. A lot of our hits were off bunts since their 3b wasn't playing close - DD actually went 3-3 (2 were bunts and one was this hit) [Warning - if you have sound on - lots of screaming - this was on 2 outs so I was super happy she got a hit)

So DD is taking hitting lessons and she does great in lessons. She can swing fast and her bat speed is way above average for her age. She can hit in the cages, she can hit off a pitching machine.
When she faces actual pitchers, she forgets how to hit.
She loses everything she's been taught, swings too slowly and is always hitting to the right side of the field.

She's facing faster pitchers now - she recently moved from 12U to 14U this season.

In hitting her instructor will throw inside/outside pitches to get her to be able to hit those.
In her first TB tournament she only struck out once and that was a called strike - she tends to let the outside pitches go. She's good at making contact.
She just isn't swinging fast enough when she makes contact.
We are going to ask her hitting instructor for some more tips but any ideas on stuff she can try?
I'm not sure if it's just mental during games that she is thinking about too much and forgets everything.
It's really frustrating to watch her ground out to second all the time :/

IMO this happens when the hitter has not mentally prepared themselves to think every pitch is a strike. In hitting practice, the hitter most of the time will get a ball in the strike zone, so they are thinking every pitch is strike which makes them on time. In games the hitter needs to think the same way, every pitch is a strike. This means they will start their load/unload process and make a decission at this stage if it's going to be a ball or strike. I think your DD just needs to have "every pitch is a strike mentality", otherwise she will be behind on every pitch.
