She's still very young both mentally and emotionally, so I'd suggest positive reinforcement and try to practice it out of her over a period of time. There's not much that confidence can't overcome. Make it fun, keep the mind active with competitive challenges along the way. As she progresses, she'll experience all the those little bumps and bruises that come with the territory. I'd bet that she'll grow out of it without either of you even realizing it.

Or, maybe she becomes the team's...catcher. ;)

It would floor me If she decided to dip Into catching. Right now her heart beats for 2B, she likes SS as well. The past 6 months she has decided she really wants to learn how to pitch. We have let her take a couple private lessons and go to a pitching camp to get her feet wet. I tried to learn some of It myself and I quickly realized I am not as coordinated as I used to be. lol Those girls who can pitch really don't get enough credit, It Is extremely hard just to get the proper motion down, at least It Is for me. If everything goes well we are going to try to ramp up her pitching lessons this year. You can never have enough tools In the bag.

Learn to play them all Shawn, learn to play them all. A little secret...look for teams with coaches who develop "utility" players as their shining stars. Over time, it's a prescription to become a versatile, well-rounded asset to any team. :)

I have a question for OP, does she regularly hit sand balls or weighted balls? The reason I ask is I have seen young girls shy away from driving through the ball because they hit a lot of sand balls and the "sting" it can create scares them. I personally use sand balls with my daughter and she loves it. We also do tee work with volleyballs and this is effective for her.

She used to use the total control balls. They were fine for a little while, but, when I saw the look on her face before contact go from aggressive to "bracing for impact" I tossed them In the bottom of the closet and they havent been used since. This was well over a year ago, before I bought her first composite bat. It was a way for us to take batting practice In my storage building on rainy days that we had planned for backyard practice. Which reminds me, I need to take them out of the closet and get some credit on them at Play It Again Sports.

How about trying a volleyball or dodge ball off a tee? I am just spit balling. Do you live in Michigan by chance, I would buy your total controls? good luck

Give her a position to end on. Don't just say "follow through." Show her where every swing ends, and then don't put the next ball on the tee, throw the next pitch, etc., until she gets to that position (and then resets, of course). Different theories on what the "proper" ending position is, but pick one and go with it (as long as it's not wrapping around her front arm!).

What do you mean by wrapping around her front arm exactly?

Yeah, OK but, if your DD doesn't hit with the correct sequence she is going to get hurt. I wouldn't be doing that with my DD. Just checked your DD is 9 yrs old. How about you try it first and see how your wrist feel.

I appreciate your concern. Thank you for your input. But I dont think we are talking about doing It on the frequency level that you may be thinking about. Cant be any worse than those TC balls that girls even younger than her are hitting. Obviously we are going to be doing a lot more tee work and soft toss working on her sequence than standing there hitting dodge balls. Like I said though, I do sincerely appreciate your concern and I will keep It In mind with any drill I do with her. Afterall, safety and health are the most important thing.
