So Cal
Is there any chance that some of the regulars on the Technical board could do a dumbed down post on the Practical board about scrap pinch etc? There is an epic post about it in the tech section but with all the big words and hitting slang I can never follow what you guys are talking about. Despite spending half of all of my waking moments haunting DFP it’s still all written in Greek as far as I can tell.

The scap (scapula) is your shoulder blade. With your right hand in front of your shoulder (keep it there), lift your right elbow so your elbow is shoulder height. Pull your elbow rearward, as if you're drawing back a bow. The tension you feel in the back of your shoulder (across your shoulder blade) is scap action we're looking for.

Eric F has provided a good explanation, IMO. While you are doing what he asks, think about moving your hands without moving your hands :) While your hands appear to be moving in space, it is not the muscles of the hands or arms that are causing it. They are being acted upon by other muscles.

Exactly right. It's the contraction of the muscles at the back of the shoulder that moves the scap towards the spine, which results in the hands being pulled rearward.

Ok-I’m going to try to feel this action and try to understand it better. I’m curious if my DD’s are aware, they must be doing it....

Here's something to try. Get into a hitting stance. Your hands should be near your shoulder. With the pointer and thumb of your top hand (right hand of right handed hitter) reach out and grab a piece of your shirt at the shoulder. Now, try to as FP26 says "move your hands without moving your hands"....if you can effectively "pull back" without breaking your grip on your shirt -- remember, your hands are effectively attached to your shoulder -- then you are moving/loading your hands without actually moving them in space! It should be a combo of pulling back with back muscles as FP/Eric describe it, and sinking slightly into a pre coil at the hip/rear leg.
