I call it the head laying down. I see it more with girls than boys. This grl looks like she is trying to TILT instead of letting naturally happen.

I am telling to the Obstruction drill and early release will help her path...100%

WRT the bold. My DD does the same thing and depending on pitch location the severity of it will change. I have been told that it is a mobility issue with the ankle and the hip. My DD is currently in the middle of the recruiting process and I can not say for sure but I believe that this "issue" has hurt her because it is distracting and just looks bad even though all of the important stuff has already taken place. I personally do not believe that action has anything to do with their mechanics IMO.

Thanks for your comments. Outside and low are pitches are the worse for my DD, it gets really extreme.

Are you saying that you believe that tilting is causing the head action? When you say early release are you talking about the top hand releasing from the handle or the releasing of the barrel during the swing?

I find the exact opposite for my daughter. Although it is still present in that location it is much worse for inside pitches. I have also noticed on my DD that during the inside pitches the head will travel reward compared to laying flat on outside pitches. Which I contribute to how much rotation is needed to get to each location.

The very first thing you need to do is learn to turn the barrel....Forget EVERYTHING ELSE!

Forget the lower half for now then if you think she not turning. I see one clip that all I can go buy. You need an obstruction that will force her to change her barrel path! A wall... a second T in the front. Simply putting the bat on your deltoid ( Epstein ) or the neck slot will help but I'm not sure once you go back to your natural hand set that the problem will be fixed? I look at those type of things as a band aid IMO.

I see a lot of pvc walls but in my experiences a t in the front of the T you are hitting off does the trick. (tee in front higher )

Releasing the barrel right after contact point gives the athlete a rushed feeling...a mental boost. I have to turn this now. I have rarely seen an athlete finish in the spot your DD is finishing ( flat ) doing this drill. Mind set is Let it go and finish high! I feel that releasing the bat in the drills does may things...Helps with early roll over as well!

I really appreciate your comments, but I we are not going to work on turning the barrel. Maybe if she was going to play many more years, than yes. Like I mentioned before, the previous year she was one of the best hitters on the team, won MVP at her grand championships etc etc. She did not turn the barrel. I introduced the technique of turning the barrel last off season and she had a horrible season last year and she has formed many bad habbits. Turning the barrel will not be part of my instruction. Girls can have much success with out turning the barrel, I see it all the time. I truly appreciate everybody's comments and advice, but "turning the barrel" is a not for us. My experience with trying to force "turning the barrel" is negative, and has damaged her swing

Yes I believe she is forcing the tilt in order to aid in extending the bat... I'm trying to break that habit.

Julray I am just curious, I know that a lot of TTB advocates stress lateral tilt. Was this something she was instructed to do when you were attempting to teach her TTB type of sequence?

You would know best! But keep in mind you have to get a lil worse before you get better! A good barrel turn isn't negotiable and its one of the few things all the Hitting Freaks agree on! That being said you know what has worked for your DD in the past and I get it!
